Division III Commitments 2014-15

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

If you look over the past 5 years Houle's rosters are much more balanced than you would think. Plenty of really good American players there as well. He is a great recruiter but the guy can coach too.

You have to remember that Plattsburgh lost a lot of its "FA" money since abandoning the program 7 or so years ago. Both the men's and women's team had to start looking elsewhere to keep up with the teams that were giving nearly full rides and attracting the big name stars. This includes going after DI transfers. Plattsburgh doesn't have the luxury as some schools (private and state) have when handing out FA packages.

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

um, no...but apparently you are.:D

Also helps when [1] "financial aid" is really an athletic scholarship
Wrong, more $$ and "scholarships" are given to non-athletes, so no. As a matter of fact, state schools have LESS flexibility ....

[not sure that continues for Canadians after some of the recent issues at other schools...i.e. Oswego];
Plattsburgh dropped all FA back 7 or so years ago and since bringing the program back has drastically reduced the amount of aid both in $$$ and number of scholarships given to the players (athletes)...the other teams have been caught because they didn't have or in some cases didn't care to have the right policy and checks and balances in place to make sure more "scholarships" were being given to non-athletes....IE Neumann 98% of scholarships given to athletes.....

and [2] admissions standards are um...a little 'flexible' shall we say.
If you think Plattsburgh is the only school with"flexible" admission standards for athletes no wonder you're blind to the world....see the end of answer #1 regarding flexibility....

Thanks....you essentially confirmed all my points. As for "flexibility" in admissions, I was NOT speaking about the ability to admit athletes per se, rather the fact that admission standards there are a bit lower than say...Harvard. So unless a player is really daft, the coach shouldn't have to worry too much about getting a blue-chipper past admissions...not the same at many other schools.

Foster's Daily Democrat (Dover, NH) Lacrosse Player of the Year
KAITLYN WURZER

Berwick Academy

The two-year captain led the Bulldogs to a second consecutive undefeated season and Eastern Independent League Championship.

Wurzer, who will attend Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt., in the fall, averaged 10.1 saves and 6.6 goals against in the 2014 season.

She was named an EIL All-Star and was honored as the EIL Player of the year. The New England Prep School Women’s Lacrosse Association (NEPSWLA) also included Wurzer in its all-star selections.

For Berwick girls lacrosse head coach Kyle Bishop, Wurzer’s influence on he game was equally felt on the field as well as off.

“Kaitlyn was pivotal in the success of our program over the last four season,” Bishop said. “We are coming off two undefeated regular season and her leadership was instrumental in this success.

“Kaitlyn is tremendously well respected,” Bishop added. “She is very humble and pretty quite. At the same time, she is an impact player.”

Wurzer was a three-season athlete throughout her career at Berwick, playing soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse. She hopes to continue playing hockey and lacrosse at St. Michael’s.

More about Werzer here. Says hockey is her main sport.

Norwich announces 15-player recruiting class for 2014-15. Pretty diverse class from all over the country and Canada. Lots of different programs too with Okanagan, Ontario Hockey Academy, Madison Capitals, Warner Hockey School, North American Hockey Academy, Middlesex Islanders and a few prep schools to boot.

15 Freshman?! That's Crazy, why so many?

15 Freshman?! That's Crazy, why so many?

I love this quote.... "Up front, Norwich has brought in nine players that will look to offset the loss of two-time AHCA First Team All-American and back-to-back ECAC East Player of the Year Tori Charron."

9 for 1 trade. Reminds me of Herschel Walker

Any kid who commits to a D3 school that regularly recruits 5-10 freshmen more than they need has likely lost perspective on their opportunities. I'm sure that some of you will say that they are all attracted by the opportunity to win the D3 NCAA championship, but the reality is that most of these kids had opportunities at other schools at which they would have been regular players....and some of those would have been NCAA championship competitive.

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

I know where Salem State and Endicott will be getting their players next year.

I think they need 6 more. 11 on offense, 11 on defense & they only have 5 on special teams.

I don't see the issue in a 27-player roster. That's a regular roster on the men's side and if injuries occur it's always nice to have depth. When a roster gets over 30 that's when I start to see problems.

I agree with this! The same could be said for the 4th or 5th line player that goes D1. PrezdeJohnson09 says you need depth, take Northeastern coach Flint, He will play Coyne 30 min a game this year despite having 4 lines. Would Preze say that is not the case at Norwich? Bolding rolls 4 lines and gets 27 players into the lineup?

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

Prez isn't dealing with 6 healthy scratch's on Monday in his office. Mark will be...

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

If coach is indeed dealing with 6 healthy scratches in his office on Monday morning, those players better be asking him about what they need to do to get in the lineup. If they showed up to complain then the need to go back to the dorm room, look in the mirror and discover if they like who is looking back. A coach recruits kids who show potential, the kid has to show the coach that they are willing to work hard, really hard, for playing time. It's on those 27 players to make that a very difficult decision for the coaching staff, not to make it an easy one.

Unfortunately, I am aware of too many recruited players who asked exactly this question, only to be told to keep doing what they are doing, they are doing all the right things. Which makes you wonder, why does a coach recruit far more of the right players than they need, and promise playing time to those recruits in excess of that which they could possibly deliver on?
