Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

If you want to win a National Championship, better stock up on Canadians. Houle gets it. ;)

Don't think so! Plattsburgh is $30,000 out of state. Thus it's an average tuition if you are Canadian where as the schools for In State Students (Americans) are much more affordable. Why would any American not from New York go there if they could play for an In- State school?

It's pretty much like any school - an out of New York American player would want to go to Plattsburgh if hockey is really important to them, they want to have a consistent opportunity to win a national championship, it's a good academic fit, and/or whatever financial aid package they got made it feasible (regardless of the list price tag which is pretty much irrelevant unless you're wealthy enough to not qualify for financial aid).

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

Not trying to belabour this point, but we only had one D1 transfer when we won BTB...and the majority of the roster was Canadian.

Kistner-U Maine, Vakos-U Conn and Aveson-Minnesota State all made fairly sizeable contributions to this past season's success.

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

Check their rosters over the past ten years. Lots of Canadians = Lots of success.

Also helps when [1] "financial aid" is really an athletic scholarship [not sure that continues for Canadians after some of the recent issues at other schools...i.e. Oswego]; and [2] admissions standards are um...a little 'flexible' shall we say.

If you need flexible admission standards to get into Plattsburgh, umm…. :roll eyes:

It's probably hard to get the Americans to go to Plattsburgh, have you seen the town?

Remember the end result is a Degree for the least amount of debt with the highest paying job possible.

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

I'm sure there are many great alums from Plattsburgh who are doing very well in life. Coach Houle brings in great kids, who compete hard and not to mention he's a great coach. Does not matter where kids come from. Look at Norwich, Amherst, Middlebury, Elmira - teams that have won National Championships. The common ingredients go far beyond a few Canadian players. In the end all these kids are student athletes who will end up at the same place - working as professionals somewhere and hopefully playing in some sort of beer league and/or giving back to the game as a leader in girls hockey.

:) 'flexible' was being kind. How about low....very low.

Re: Division III Commitments 2014-15

Ya...just one major problem with that theory.... Unless they are getting something for free, most Cannuukks are out.
If you look over the past 5 years Houle's rosters are much more balanced than you would think. Plenty of really good American players there as well. He is a great recruiter but the guy can coach too.

Wow....are you that clueless?
