Division I Rutter Rankings 2014-2015

Re: Division I Rutter Rankings 2014-2015

That closeness between Clarkson/Bemidji/Cornell is fascinating.

especially considering one of them is the team likely to be bumped by the CHA entry in the NCAA
since ECAC has more votes than anybody, I'd say it would be Bemidji

Re: Division I Rutter Rankings 2014-2015

What is up with Vermont? It makes absolutely no sense to me that the bottom 4 ECAC teams are ranked SO LOW relative to the bottom half of the Hockey East standings. When I do an analysis of games between the 2 conferences the bottom 4 ECAC teams come off very very well against HE...with one exception. Vermont is pathetic within their conference but they are 5-1-1 against the ECAC! If not for Vermont, the bottom 4 ECAC teams would be 8-5-2 against the 6 HE teams they have played (they have not played BC and BU). Against Vermont they are 0-5-1! ***?

There was an error in the web scrapping portion of my code, so the rankings at my web site did not update over the weekend. They are now correct. Here is the top 10.

Any chance at D3 Rutters for this year?

Re: Division I Rutter Rankings 2014-2015

Any chance at D3 Rutters for this year?

I'm sorry, but no D3 rankings this season. Things became really busy in the real world around the time D3 season started and it just got pushed to the back burner, then finally fell off.

Next year, the plan is to get both going at the same time.

Re: Division I Rutter Rankings 2014-2015

Final Rankings for 2014-15

Code:
Rank	Seed	Team Rating Last Week	P(Top 8)
1	1	Minnesota 1.86	1	100.0
2	2	Boston College 1.65	2	99.8
3	4	Wisconsin 1.51	3	99.8
4	3	Harvard 1.25	4	94.6
5 North Dakota 0.98	5	74.0
6 Minnesota Dul. 0.93	6	65.9
7	4	Boston Univ. 0.88	9	56.9
8	6	Quinnipiac 0.86	7	53.8
8	7	Clarkson 0.86	8	52.7
10 Bemidji State 0.76	NR	37.6
23	8	RIT -0.47	NR	0.0

Well, based on these tankings, North Dakota and UMD were overlooked for the NCAA tournament. KRACH has ND and UMD below BU and Quinnipiac, but the distance between the four is smaller in KRACH than in my rankings. Since Minnesota is rated higher in my rankings, the other WCHA teams get pulled up. RIT is provided as a reference.

Quinnipiac 1.36 at Harvard 1.62
RIT 0.57 at Minnesota 6.25
Boston University 1.32 at Wisconsin 4.45

I'm surprised at how large the margin is between BU and Wisconsin. If someone would give me 3.1 goals I would take BU.

Re: Division I Rutter Rankings 2014-2015

By the same token I would take BC -1.5 all day. Not saying the upset can't happen but BC probably wins by 2+ more often than not.

The other two seem right though.

Any calculation based on RIT's season numbers will be skewed because of a rash of injuries earlier in the season. They're a better team offensively and defensively right now than their record and stats imply.

Idk UM -5.5 sure seems pretty accurate.

Re: Division I Rutter Rankings 2014-2015

RIT hasn't lost by more than 5 all season, and only once (to UND) by that much.

Meanwhile the Gophers have won by more than 5 goals on eight occasions (of 38), but five of those eight were to St. Cloud State and Minnesota State.

In another thread I guessed 7-1, but that's more of a hunch (or hope ?) than anything, based in part on the Gophers' home ice advantage.
