Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Not sure what the story behind it is but it looks like Toni Ann Miano is actually committed to BC and not BU. Was she ever committed to BU or was this a mistake?

The same confusion existed in reverse last year when Sarah Steele was reported in the PWHL Final Four program as going to BC, when in fact she'd committed to BU. Apparently, many people think the Boston schools are all the same.

Obviously TTT needs to set them straight.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

I'm assuming Nicola received a favorable testimonial from someone on the virtues of GF and UND.
.

They have an Olive Garden, so they got that going for them.
The Olive Garden is "the largest and most beautiful restaurant now operating in Grand Forks," she concluded. "It attracts visitors from out of town as well as people who live here."

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Also I can confirm that Miano is indeed a BC recruit, not BU. I would imagine that was a "she committed to a Boston school" mistake.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

T.T. Cianfarano is no longer committed to Wisconsin. She confirmed today she is now looking into Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, Northeastern and Quinnipiac.

I don't understand this. The article implies she wanted to go to Wisconsin but had admission issues. It also says she signed an NLI. However, my understanding is that an NLI binds BOTH parties, which means Wisconsin's admissions department must have been aware and amenable to her in November. What am I missing?

Though I know that reneging on verbal commitments isn't particularly unusual, I'm surprised to see a signed commitment reneged on. Under what circumstances is this possible?

Couple of things:

- ANY admitted student (hockey NLI or not) that has serious drops in academic performance after admission can be rejected later as a result. Also, if she is graduating from her high school but for some reasons didn't fulfill all the requirements for Wisconsin that could be an issue (i.e. failed that last language course in the Fall/Spring or something like that).
- More likely, if a player who signed a NLI fell out of love with the school for whatever reason, would the coach really want her there? Would a coach actually say "you signed a NLI, so you have to come regardless of whether you want to or not and we're not going to release you"? Who wants freshmen on their team who don't want to be there - that's a cancer waiting to grow.

Yeah, that was the only thing I could think of.
