Great news for Brown - Sam is a great player and person who has grown up in the game around some top players. She will have real impact!

A very fine post!

It adds nothing positive to the discussions, and ultimately makes the person writing those nasty comments look pretty dumb. Never forget that these are still young women you are discussing, the vast majority of whom are kind, fun, interesting, unique, caring, and dedicated in "real life." If a young woman is able to not only play hockey at this high level, but also handle the demanding course work that comes with attending an Ivy school, hats off to them and much luck on their journey."

I'm really of two minds on this one. So much of what's exciting about following any team is the assessment of individual skills and how they translate into team success or failure. I confess that every Wednesday during football season I read, and diligently compare, the two Boston newspapers' grades (with a paragraph of analysis) for every single one of the Patriots' 53 active players who are, after all, well-paid fellows in their mid-20s.

But then FireInTheHeart is right, and anyone who's had a D on a college team knows that the 19 year olds are already under a ton of pressure from coaches and teammates and shouldm't be subjected to the partially informed, or completely uninformed, barbs of strangers.

So where to draw the line? I love to speculate about how the individual skills and weaknesses of players on the one women's ice hockey team that I follow are likely to meld into line combinations, D pairings, PP and PK minutes and so forth, but I try to keep what I post pretty vague. I might say, for example, that last year there was a lot of personnel movement between the second and third lines with the third line apparently getting more ice time than in prior years and with the third line not as obviously focusing as in prior years on two things, tenacious backchecking and keeping the puck in a cycle in the opponents' end 180 feet out of danger. Rather than saying that three years ago Suzie Smith and Sarah Stevens and Sally Struthers were prone to give up the puck and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn door but boy were they tenacious and athletic and their tenacity and athleticism made them a perfectly adequate third line if you limited their minutes. When I do drop in candid criticism, it's usually in the context of a congratulatory valedictory post on the lines of "boy did she develop: as a freshman she couldn't hit the broadside of a barn door, but she stuck to it and this year the team wouldn't have been anywhere without her clutch goals."

But still it's really hard to know where to draw the line in any particular instance without inflicting gratuitous pain on a young person.

So I would agree with much of what you write and I don't write negative critiques of players. That being said, the reality is that Division 1 college athletes accept the opportunity to play at that level knowing that the public will observe them and critique their play - would a QB for Alabama or the men's goalie at Boston University expect to be critiqued by the public?? I think so!! Why are women playing college hockey different? There is occasional commentary about inequity amongst men's and women's sports on this forum - if equality is a goal (as it should be) then you should expect to be commented on equally as well. Those who think that they should be shielded from all criticism because they are young are hopelessly unrealistic - they are old enough to serve in the military and drive a car. These are not kids, they are young adults - if they cannot accept (reasonable) critiquing of their performance, then they really shouldn't have signed up to play Division 1 athletics (or even Division 3 for that matter). People will say/post what they want about players if they want to and, short of obscene/harassing/abusive comments, really nothing can be done to stop them. That is reality and should be expected.

Since the original quote that kicked off your commentary was in response to a post of mine way back, I feel the need to respond...again. I will say AGAIN that my quote said NOTHING negative about Alev Baysoy, who I STILL don't know and have never seen play. It was about an apparent change in Princeton recruiting philosophy regarding earlier commitments. Somebody inaccurately and incorrectly took that as a negative commentary on Ms. Baysoy and posted by taking a personal shot at me for no reason whatsoever:

"HockeyEast33 Ms. Baysoy is a great player who will fit in well at Princeton. How nice of you to assume that something wrong is happening with her commitment. Perhaps your kid(s) couldn't get in to an Ivy so you assume if someone else commits there is something shady going on. "

My response was to that poster (RockandRoll) and not towards the player. People should read posts more thoroughly if they are going to make personal attacks. And they should expect to get a volley of return fire if they do make a personal attack.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Just confirming, I never understood why anyone thought your post was critical, much less inappropriately critical, of an individual player.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

I made the post that was critical of HockeyEast33's comments, and it was prompted by the following sentence he/she wrote: "With respect to your daughter Ms. Baysoy, I wish her all the success at Princeton both hockey and academic. I would suggest that you learn to differentiate comments about your kid's team from those about your kid specifically and develop thicker skin before she gets to Princeton...". I was prompted by his/her assumption that it was a parent writing about their daughter, which we subsequently saw was not the case. It was an unnecessary shot at someone who wasn't even on this site.

My daughter (and I assume most other players) are in fact well aware their play will be criticized at times by coaches, fellow teammates, potentially the press, other teams/coaches, other parents, and sadly, sometimes their own parents (I hope not). She well knows that any time she spends on the ice during games is hard won during practice, other games, in the locker room, etc - and being the competitive person she is, it's all part of the process. No problem. Their play is public, and I would assume game/team/line combo comments made are fair game as well. Most players have developed a bit of a thick skin in the process (not always true for us parents!)

However, in my post I made the point that *despite* what is posted on this forum, or said in the stands, or overheard from a coach, etc., the fact remains that each hockey player is in fact just a "kid," a live human being. As a season goes by, sometimes it gets lost in the shuffle that for the most part they are all working very hard out there, trying to do their best. :)

Sarah Bobrowski.. is from Hill-Murray HS not BSM (they already have way too many forwards there anyways)..Lindenwood

Also I believe RPI is D1 or is that where you have Rochester?

RPI
Amanda Kimmerle...D....Anoka, MN

St. Cloud State
Brittany Anderson.......D..............Hill-Murray.......St. Paul,MN

If you could slot these in too that would be good.

and RIT as Rochester.

Sorry 96IlliniDad,

I didn't mean to make a mess of this. I was looking for someone to do your format. I guess I got too excited. lol RPI Renssselar yes! my bad thanks for straightening me out guys!

Brittany Anderson is going to St. Cloud State University (SCSU).

Joe Hockey I will let your info stand as I didn't know her (BA) hometown as Hill is a private school in St. Paul,MN. I really didn't know she was a Hudson,WI kid.
