Katelin Gately ....................F .............................(Assabet) ..........................................MA
Emily Monaghan .................F ....................(Edge Mountaineers) ........................Calgary, AB
Courtney Pensavalle .............F ......................(Team Pittsburgh) ...................Winchester, MA
Mallory Souliotis ................ D/F ..........................(Assabet) ...............................Acton, MA
Brittany Wheeler .................F ...................(Benilde St Margaret's) .................................MN
Kara Drexler......................D............(Anaheim lady Ducks)...........Manhattan Beach, CA

I could always be wrong, but off the top of my head I would say that there is NO way that Yale is getting 7 kids in unless at least 2 of them would get in totally without hockey support. I would bet that one or two of these seven don't "make it through admissions". That being said, Princeton got 7 this year and I would have said the same about them.

Maybe a dumb question but what do you mean by "without hockey support"? My understanding is Ivey League teams don't offer athletic scholarships so I am assuming you don't mean a hockey scholarship.

Coaches flag for admissions the student-athletes they have recruited which basically gives them some bonus points to aid in acceptance.

I believe he is referring to the slightly lower academic admission standards that are sometimes given to elite athletes at some of the Ivies. Teams, more specifically, coaches of teams are accountable for their players GPA's. The women's hockey program can support a few lower admitted athletes without adversely affecting their overall GPA but an incoming class of 7 would potentially drop the GPA into a dangerous level. The 2 that HE33 is referring to implies that at least 2 of the students would not require any help getting through admissions.

If I am speaking out of context, please correct me.

Pretty much spot on, except the Ivies use a calculation called the Academic Index (AI) not strictly GPA. The AI is a combination of high school GPA and standardized test scores (if you google it you can find various versions of the formula). An Ivy League coach's recruiting class would have a target AI (defined by the school based on their student population average AI and the importance of the sport that year to the athletic director). An above target AI kid can help a coach get in a below target AI kid. However, a coach can only support so many kids in the admissions process. So I'm saying that 2 of Yale's recruits (if there were 7) would probably have to have good enough admissions status/application to get in on their own without the coach's support.

Taylor Crosby to Northeastern? Interesting...

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Glad to see she landed a spot. We saw her play vs. the MN Elite teams a couple of years ago. She was good, but not exceptional.

I would say she's more of a name than a top recruit. Decent goalie but will definitely be fighting for ice time at the D1 level.
