Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Is D3 hockey skill level, speed, etc. generally similar to D1 or is it a 'night and day' difference? [I have heard answers all over the lot].

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

It's hard to say. I think perhaps you could characterize it like so: the difference between the top teams in D-I and the bottom teams in D-I is greater than that between those bottom teams and the top teams in D-III. The difference top-to-bottom in D-III is probably greater still.

Dunno. ECAC West? Nuemann, Chatham...

Wouldn't matter to Platty...they never leave home anyway. :D

They posted the job last year, never hired anyone. I had heard they didn't even interview anyone. They posted the job again about a month ago.

I doubt the ECAC WEST AD's would vote them in. Think-Platt, Potsdam, Buffalo, Oswego, Utica, too much travel. It is 2 hours past Neumann, which is already a 7 hour trip for both Platt and Buff State.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Caught wind of some recruiting activity and see they have Women's Ice Hockey listed as a sport with a recruitment form.

That would get us to eight! :)

My calculations have us at 49 and the needed number is 52.

However, I've heard rumblings that it has already been approved for eight next year. I can't get any direct confirmation though from anyone in the NCAA to confirm this otherwise I would have blogged about it by now.

Get your popcorn and peanuts..don't be late...it's gonna be eight. ;)

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

I've heard the same. Just waiting to hear confirmation from someone at the NCAA.

Boy that's really going to throw a wrinkle into the mess. "How the west was screwed" title thread for next years playoffs :) I can't imagine there are high odds of a 5-3 split unless one of those 3 is Adrian year in/year out.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

It was announced to the coaches in Naples that eight is the new number. It has something to do with the addition of St. Norbert and St. Scholastica last year.
Also, the ECAC-West is the preferred destination for Stevenson Univ. as there is a very quiet push to expand the league/sport to the south. Travel partners may be in the future as Neumann and Stevenson would be a pairing. Big question.....now that Utica has formally applied to the SUNYAC on the mens side....is a womens SUNYAC that far from a reality?

I was told the sunyac women's conference will not happen until there are 7 members.

The NCAA must also be giving them a rounded ratio number because 52 is what makes it eight teams given the 6.5 access ratio for d-3 tournaments.
