Re: DIII NCAA pairing speculation

It's official:

Gustavus Adolphus @ Wisconsin-River Falls

Adrian @ RIT

Manhattanville @ Middlebury

Norwich-bye

There is something wrong when the top seed doesn't get the only bye in a tournament. Done for money reasons? OK, I suppose. But there is something VERY wrong when an at-large "wild-card" gets the bye. That makes no sense at all.

They didn't want to have Norwich vs. Mville for the third time in a month?

I think it happened to avoid the intra-conference matchup that would have had to happen with Manhattanville playing Norwich.

RIT/Adrian was locked in stone. so all that was left was Manhattanville, Middlebury, and Norwich. Try to avoid intra-conference matchups and that's what you get.

Re: DIII NCAA pairing speculation

I understand the not playing within your conference thing, but losing the conference championship and getting a bye as a reward doesn't seem quite right. The bye should be a reward for a great in-season record and winning your conference championship. I'm confused.

I agree. If they were so dead set on avoiding a conference matchup, then give Manhattanville the bye - especially over Norwich, which I'm not sure should have even gotten in the tournament over Plattsburgh.

You have to look at the entire season record, not just the last game. A playoff game counts exactly as much toward the criteria as any other game - no more, no less.

it doesn't make any sense at all... norwich loses their conference and gets a bye to the semis... its sad when it comes down to money.

Re: DIII NCAA pairing speculation

Interesting mix of new (Norwich 2007, Adrian 2007), sort of new (WRF 1999, GA 1997, M'ville 1999) and old (RIT 1975, Middlebury 1981) programs making into the tournament. Women's DIII hockey is a fast-growing and ever-changing landscape. Congrats to all and good luck in the tourney.

Re: DIII NCAA pairing speculation

Just wondering...should we expect the same team we saw earlier this season?

Probably not. THey have been playing a lot better as of late. I would expect a game more like the first game of the two game series. If the goalie is on and Kempson keeps her head...then it will be a good game. I'd still expect RIT to win it...but in a 1 and done anything can happen.

I have a feeling the result this weekend had more to do with River Falls letting up then Adrian overpowering.
