Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Official time: 1:48:48. 7 seconds off a PR, on 3 hours of sleep and coming off working 50 hours prior to that? I will take it.

(Coming by the running store, giving high-fives to my coworkers out cheering, 2.6 to go.)

Good job, 'diva! When's your next race? The marathon?

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Seaway 15K results: 1:44:43, 11:16/mile. It's not the time I wanted, but considering that I was reduced to WALKING earlier this year, I'll take it. Next up is more training for the MTC marathon and the next race is the Old Boys' half, taking place on 9/29.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

I'm training for the Twin Cities marathon, yet I'm trying to lose weight. This is hard... like nailing Jello to a tree. Thankfully, I see the dietitian again on Tuesday, and on top of that, the Team In Training nutrition coach is helping me. So there's light at the end of the tunnel..

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

I've been seeing a trainer 3X/month for about 6 weeks now, and have a pretty decent routine in place to tone up, but not bulk up. I also just picked up hockey as my form of cardio. Now I am not a very strong skater, can't go backwards, etc, but I still move around a bunch and get a good workout in. Now to my real question, does anyone know of anyplace in MA or NH that is good for skating lessons? Most places I have found they don't separate the age groups, so I'd be going with a bunch of 5 year olds.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

My dietitian appointment was pushed all the way back to Sept. 4th, but the Team in Training nutrition coach says with my activity level, I can eat 2500 calories a day, train for a marathon, and still lose weight.

And on Monday, I'm putting my gym membership on hold. Can't afford it right now.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Spent 12 hours last night on the side of a mountain with 2 50 pound sandbags, a sledgehammer, a tire, and a rucksack. Hiked/ran over 20 miles in that time, and did over 1000 reps of stuff with and without a lot of weight. I must say, farmers carry with 100 pounds in buckets for 2 miles is not fun, but bringing a 250 pound log up and down the mountain (only about 2.5 miles total) was the worst, especially since bringing it down was with about 60 pounds in our packs, and it was around 5am.

The obvious conclusion is that your proximity to Coronado Island has inspired you to enroll in the next BUDs class. It's either that or you have some sort of mental disorder.

Seriously speaking, that's beyond impressive.

Are you doing this as training for something or just because you enjoy doing it?

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

I have lurked in this thread for a while now but its finally time to post. As of yesterday morning I have lost 100 pounds since the beginning of the year. I feel so great and it is really fun to see people now that have not seen me in a while, they hardly recognize me anymore.

Congratulations! That's very awesome!

(and a nice degree of normality in the face of Rimbaud's insanity)

This

What I do is normal. For the group of people I hang around with at least.

I'm going with yes. I'm always training for something and it is darned enjoyable to do it!

plus this seems to be way out of wack. ;)

BTW, we know you like to run mountains, are you training for something very, very specific? Special race, or series, or something? Your pictures illustrate what kind of shape you are in, so it's not as if you are doing this training for some kind of body shape.

Just bear with the "abuse"- we are all jealous that you can do that. jerk. :)

Nothing very, very specific. If you train harder than anything you'll ever do for a race, any race will be easy (well not easy, but you know it's manageable). That's my mindset.

It's also good to set a distance goal, something you don't think you can do (or just barely do), and then no matter what, beat it, even if it's just a few steps. Get into the habit of proving to yourself that no matter what, you'll get past your goals. I keep two things constantly on my mind when I train like that: One comes from Gattaca: Never leave anything for the swim back. And the other from Herb Brooks/Miracle: The legs feed the wolf.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Just completed my first 40 mile week and knocked my mile time down to 11:23! Also, I scored an early appointment with the dietitian, and not only is my weight down to 222 (from 232), my calories are now up to 2500 per day.

I'm looking forward to the day I no longer have to worry about counting calories or if I'm eating enough. :(
