Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

MissThundercat

Are the cis okay?
It's 2012; what are your fitness goals?

Mine are as follows:

1. Cut back on the caffeine and replace it with water.

2. Drop 20 lbs. I discovered I love baking and can't keep my hand out of the cookie jar.

3. Run the Fifth-Third 25K in May and the Twin Cities Marathon in October.

4. When it comes to food, remember to keep it local, seasonal, and organic.

Watching the Today show, one of the weekend anchors, Jen, is training Lester Holt, wow is that girl cut.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Now that I am back on my own, I need to do some major damage control.

Obviously #1 is to lose weight. First thing first: portion control.

#2 is to find a gym. I am in the process of finding out discounts for local gyms. I would prefer the Eagan Community Center because I drive by it every day.

#3 is to not flake out...again. I need the most support that I can possibly get. If I am not on here giving updates, please call me out on it.

Thank you. That is all.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

To my original goal a few years ago- half marathon whenever I want. Sounds simple but the two seasons of injury has taken its toll.

Sub goal- lose 10, try for 15-20
Sub goal- find a step that does not get me injured
Race goals- dexter Ann arbor half followed by the Ann arbor half two weeks later. If I can do that, my goal of a half anytime is doAble.

I'm taking the winter training season off to keep the miles down as my foot heals. But that doe mean some serious time in the gym as well.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Finished the Sgt. Preston 6 mile in 1:03:42. Not my best time in three years, but it's not my worst either. The year's gotten off to a great start!

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Dr. diagnosed me pre-diabetic back in september so I have already lost quite a bit of weight and have been exercising regularly.

Starting weight: 255 lbs.
Current weight: 220 lbs.
Goal Weight: 185 lbs.

Current Blood Sugar: more or less normal with no medication.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

aside from cutting drinking out, I am at my overall athletic goals but am still planning on improving. Nothing too crazy, but i'd like to at least see some incremental gains on big lifts, but a lot of that depends on injuries. As for weight, I am happy at ~190, but wouldn't mind being 190 and leaner. In short, nothing much will change between 2011 and 2012.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Why do I, all of a sudden, have Salt n Pepa stuck in my head?!

None of this for me; haven't played Dance Dance Revolution in a while. Surprisingly still only at 260 (although when you're 6'1, isn't THAT bad...)

It's a good song. Or if you don't like S&P, I was thinking of Garbage.

I seem to be doing better this year when it comes to food. My weight is at 232, but I need to get down to 200 to be at a nice race weight.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Was going to sing up for the DC rock n roll half to do with friends but waited too long and now it's sold out. Probably going to try to get around to doing a half at some point this year, but who knows what will happen since we're expecting at kid in May.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

2012 goals
1. Replace soda with water. I switched from regular to diet a few years back, but I know it's still not good for me. Plus I don't need the extra caffeine - I drink enough coffee (and that's not going!)
2. Run a few competitive races. At least a 5k and 10k, maybe a half-marathon.
3. Lose 10-15 pounds. 2010 I dropped from 290 to 225. 2011, from 225 to just above 200. I think I'd like to settle around 185-190.
4. Keep picking things up and putting them down. Muscles are fun.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Joined a Boxing/MMA style gym yesterday. Have a feeling the first workout I do is going to induce some projectile vomiting. But that's ok because the girl at the counter said she'd gladly clean up. I figure I need something more than just a weight lifting routine, and I can't concentrate enough to get my cardio in on a treadmill or an elliptical, so hopefully this should do the trick. Not really looking for a number of pounds to lose, but I'd like to cut my body fat % by 1/3 to a 1/2.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

I've signed up for Ironman #2 - Ironman Louisville. I hate the heat and humidity so doing an IM in Kentucky in August seemed perfectly logical. :)

I think you should do the Ironman (or half) in Puerto Rico in March. It's in the winter, afterall.... ;)

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

I need to get back diet back in check, health issues in November followed by the holidays absolutely destroyed the pattern I had settled into. The types of food I am eating are generally healthy (save a few exceptions), I just need to cut back on how much again. That and my weight training pretty much went out the window with the November health isues, so need to find more time for that. The only good news is I've been doing about twice as much cardio lately so I didn't gain too much through the holidays.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Goals:

1. Stabilize diet. I... struggled... quite a bit in 2011. The stress of relocation--new home, new job, lack of support system in place--caused a major back slide in to some bad habits. I'm journaling to both make sure I'm eating enough of quality things and to see what triggers my behaviors and how to deal with them in healthier ways.
2. Run my first marathon! I won an entry in to the Walker North Country Marathon in Walker, MN, in September.
3. Break 4 digits in total mileage for the year. I came so close in 2011, 976, that this should be easy as long as I stay healthy and focused.
4. Sub 1:45 half marathon. Sub 22 5K.
5. Rock the hell out of a certain white dress this June. :)

Congrats; I'm sure nmupiccdivo will be quite pleased. ;):D

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Goals:

1. Get out of the habit of putting on winter weight
2. Get as close to 240 as I can. (I gained some weight and am at 255)
3. Improve my cardio stamina.
4. Improve my strength and get back to lifting a respectable amount.
5. Maybe enter a 5K walk or something.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Took a kickboxing class on Saturday. Left hurting. Figured I'd take the "kick" out of boxing today and just do a boxing class. Hurt even more. 1 hour class of boxing = 3 days of double sessions for football in the hot August sun. Figure it'll be a good two weeks or so before my body gets used to doing things it doesn't like to do (i.e move).
