In other news, I may have the first fridge ever to have a specific yogurt drawer. I think I'm personally keeping Chobani in business.

I don't have a specific drawer for my yogurt but I do have a specific shelf. ;) I have eaten a yogurt a day for about the past 7 years. Love the stuff.

You and my wife. Two 32oz containers a week. I don't know how someone doesn't get sick of eating that day in and day out.

I usually buy the 6oz cups, so the flavor changes help. I also use the plain in meals and recipes that call for sour cream. (PS--not only does it work, but it is delicious.) But, as I've said before--I'm not the biggest meat eater, so that is how I get protein in to my diet.

I'm attempting to add more yogurt to my diet for a few reasons (1- go to snack rather than grabbing more carbs, 2- more protein and dairy in my diet), so I bought a bunch of the Greek single serve ones (I find if I buy the big container, I don't eat the correct portion and portion control is a HUGE issue for me). I hadn't thought to use it in place of sour cream, but I might do that from now on. I find that overly fatty dairy gives me some nasty side effects.

Anyone use the small meal concept rather than 3 squares? I find that I'm overeating at breakfast and dinner and thought that if I ate 1/2 bagel for breakfast, then a yogurt on the early side of about 1200 and another snack in the afternoon, and then dinner that maybe my morning and afternoon crashes might go away.

I find that I'm overeating at breakfast and dinner and thought that if I ate 1/2 bagel for breakfast, then a yogurt on the early side of about 1200 and another snack in the afternoon, and then dinner that maybe my morning and afternoon crashes might go away.

I've kind of incorporated the small meal concept - I find that snacking helps me keep my portions down and make better choices at "full" mealtimes. Typical day - oatmeal with raisins or blueberries for breakfast @ 7, banana @ 9:30, lunch - turkey sammy, apple, carrots & a yogurt @ 12:00, another apple or banana @ 3, handful of almonds @ 5:30, dinner around 7-7:30 (last night was steak, roasted broccoli and sauteed mushrooms. And a few glasses of wine). Still working on convincing myself that dinner does not need to be the biggest meal of the day :)

Re the yogurt conversation - we stick to the greek style stuff in my house, generally whatever is on sale that week between fage, chobani and the new dannon oikos stuff. The oikos is surprisingly good.

Exercise update - tried a bodyweight circuit training routine I found online last night - the Crazy 8 300 circuit. Looks easy enough from the list, but it's pretty intense. I was sweating and panting like a dog by the end.

60 jumping jacks
20 spiderman pushups (10 each side)
30 walking lunges (15 each side)
20 spiderman climbs (10 each side)
45 second wall squat hold
60 second plank hold
5 burpees
50 running high knees (25 per side)

That's one set. Go through it without stopping between each exercise. Rest for one minute between sets. Complete 3 sets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhWjPYdu_qk

Thanks! It's good to read a recommendation for meal planning. If people seem to think this works, I'll probably end up doing more research about appropriate sized meals. We have had large dinners, but both of us are trying to eat less at that time now...

I'm not a fan of the Chobani. I don't know why - a texture thing, maybe? I like Cabot and Greek Gods, though this week I bought the store brand, Hannaford's Taste of Inspirations with honey and with vanilla.

I kind of do the small meal concept. I eat a large breakfast (oatmeal with some type of fruit, flax seed meal, TVP, cranberries, and cinnamon) at about 8 AM. A small snack about 10:30 AM (cottage cheese or fruit). A light lunch at Noon (soup usually). A piece of fruit at 3:30 PM. A snack (yogurt) at 5:30 - 6:00 when I get home. Then dinner around 8:00 PM. Dinner is usually a larger meal but not my largest which is breakfast.

2 qts at a time, somes times out of raw milk, sometimes from whole milk and sometimes from Half and Half. I always drip it over night, sometimes longer if I want it more like cream cheese. Half and Half yogurt is awesome. I also ferment mine for 24 hrs to get rid of all the lactose, almost no carbs and all protein

I am going to admit that I have falled off the wagon....again.

With all this talk of yogurt, I had to stop at the grocery store on the way home last night and I ended up buying some key lime pie greek yogurt. The Yoplait greek yogurt is good. I especially like honey vanilla flavor as well. I also bought oranges. Sssoooooo good. On the upside, I ran into a person that is a Yoga Fit instructor. I am planning on meeting up with them sometime and get some energy again.

And I just bought the 12 pack of Chobani from Sam's Club. That should last me for about a week.

I did my first double digit run of the year yesterday, and for about 4 hours afterward, I felt like I had a raging hangover. :( I know it was dehydration, but I wouldn't have expected it from a 10 miler in February.

Got a call from my doctor's office this morning: my iron levels were constant at 11.6, so no changes to my medication. Still waiting to hear back about my thyroid.

I haven't run in a couple of weeks, sticking to the elliptical and bike until I can shed some of this excess baggage. And it dawned on me that if I'm going to go sugar-free, I need to clean all the sugar out, not just sucrose.

Since a lot of this board here are runner and bikers, I would like to remind you to be careful with your skin. I've had this scar on my arm that would break every once in a while, and even after freezing, only part of it went away. Turns out to be basal cell carcinoma. Yes, skin cancer. Not serious- and it's worst effect (based on reading a lot of interent stuff) is generally bad scars in obvious places. It's mainly casued from sun exposure. Apparently +90% of all cancer is this, and it's 99% treateable with simple (but tedious) work.

I'm sure I didn't get this from running, since I know I had it for quite a few years. But I'm also sure that running hasn't helped. So 1) make sure you get checked every once in a while, and 2) wear sunscreen. It's great to be outside. Just take good measures.

I don't think it's that bad. Yes, it can be very bad, but it appears to be very, very rare. And if it were that, I'm sure mine would have gotten worse a few years ago. The normal "worst" is bad disfigurement- caused by how much needs to be cut out- but that's for big patches on your head (neck, face, ears, etc).

Mine appears to be stable, and <1cm^2.

Still, I do want to remind all of you to check yourselves, exercise partners, and loved ones.

haven't been the best boy this year as of yet... but I did do a 5K on Sunday as mostly a social event... 48:06... mile pace of 15:29. Not terrible considering my current shape and general aversion to running. The "Love the Run Your With 5K" sponsored by Pacers (running equipment store). Pentagon City starting in the back of the Pentagon City Shoppes and down Army Navy Drive... which started with a hill :mad:

Got a nice fleece blanket for my efforts.

I'd be dead right now if my wife hadn't found a spot on my back, turned out to be melanoma, pretty scary. Real good chance I'm going to have it somewhere else again. Go to dermatologist every 6 months and have since the spot was removed 8 years ago

Still, it is kind of a reality check. I try to be very vigilant about sunscreen (I never leave the house without putting an SPF 15 moisturizer on), but I know I'm not perfect at it. (Case in point--the cute little sunburn I got during the Mel/HN wedding tailgate last summer.
I'm glad to hear it isn't life-threatening.

I just used a bike trainer for the first time. It was simpler than I thought it was going to be, and it was a lot like just being on a traditional stationary bike. Boring as heck, but I'm glad I got a ride in.

Anyone ever tried the Shake Weight? How well do they work?

They have them cheap in our canteen store and I might pick one up for the lulz. I'm not expecting to get ripped or anything, but I have noodle arms and it couldn't hurt.

Those things always seemed a bit strange to me, as I figured I could get basically the same workout by...uhh... surfing the web.

Then I saw the South Park episode about them. Now when I see them in the stores I can't help but chuckle.

In all seriousness, you'd probably be better off spending the money on a plain old dumbbell.
