We haven't seen either of them around here lately, but Quiz and Sloe Gin are taking on their first half-Ironman today. Good luck to them!

real quick fly by post then back to hiding.

Quiz and I both survived IM 70.3 Boulder. Our friends Kris and Mark were EVERYWHERE on the course and their cheering was definitely what got us through the 94+ degree heat on the run. I came across in 7:29:50 and Quiz did 7:54:05. I have 2nd degree sunburn on my shoulders and a race belt tramp stamp sunburn, but the battle scars make it worth it.

My goal was obviously to finish. You don't *k around with a race like this and in my first one, I didn't give a *k about time. My swim went as planned; my bike went better then expected; my run suffered greatly due to the heat. But a lot of people did. Over 1900 started; 1309 finished. At the 1/2way point of the run, I chatted with Kris for a minute (she's an Ironman) and she told me to just keep moving, get the run done, don't even worry about running. Just get it done. Hearing that helped so much.

It was a good day, and the visor proves it. :)

Great job! And, if I get my calculations right, you are just over 6 weeks away from the BIG DAY. Now that the Tri is done- make sure you both have fun on that day.

You prob have figured this out, but I am surprised no one responded to this.

Don't be afraid to take a little recovery time. Walking is actually a great way to lose weight and it is a time honored tradition that bodybuilders till use. You want to make sure everything recovers properly or else you will just be dealing with the injury again down the road.

So walk, run and with your extra energy you can focus on dialing your diet/ nutrition in. Which in my opinion is the hardest part, but oldly enough the part you get the most bang for your buck.

I havent been around here lately, but I wanted to post about my most recent Strongman Event. It was run by the same gym that did my last one. I ended up tying for 2nd.

First event was a log press. 60 seconds press a 110 lbs log as many times as you can. I did 7 times for tied for first.

Second event was a keg load, I am came in second with a 200lbs keg load. I have no idea if I could of done the 230lbs keg, andwhat i have realized is I really should practice these events before the competition ( I had no idea what i could or couldnt do so I started at the 140 lbs keg and we had 3 tries for max load, I loaded the 140, 170 and 200lbs kegs no problems).

Third Event was a Gullivers Dumbell Carry, I had to Zurcher Carry a log, run with it as fast as I could. I came in 3rd in that one.

Fourth event, drag a heavy chain for time, I heard the chain was 500lbs. I was HAULING on this event, then I feel, so I came in 4th.

Last event was called power stairs, load heavy concrete blocks up 4 stairs, go to the bottom, and repeat two more times. I came in third.

So overall tied for 2nd. I think that is great considering most of these events I were doing for the first time and I havent seriously lifted in a couple of months.

I do miss getting back into a regular workout routine, I think I am going to change Crossfit boxes, I dont really care for the direction my current gym is going in, and I live right between two crossfit gyms so it wont be too much effort to change. Just feels like I am breaking up with them or something.

My nutrition is going pretty well through, havent had a soda in two months, and I have reached the point where I have almost eliminated all liquid calories. Hooray! So I am on a good track to being able to restore my health. Double Hooray!

I was hoping to post an update this past weekend, saying that I finished my first 20 mile run, having done 18 the week before.

Hoped.

But at mile 10, too much pain.

So, after a doctors appointment, I am out 4-6 weeks thanks to an actual stress fracture.

Funny how things progress- 2009- mortons neuroma, 2010- stress reaction, now 2011- stress fracture- all in the same area on the same foot. I'll be seeing some running specialists after I heal. Something is wrong, for sure.

I'll have to look into local health clubs so that I can actuall work out on a bike- I'm not all that confident biking for many, many road miles right now. And I'm really hoping to have some kind of swimming, too.

But, at a minimum, half marathon in October..... Oh, well.

I rotate 3 pairs. Well, 4. One pair of Nike vromero zoom 5 that have lots of miles, and one brand new pair of the same, a pair of Addidas Ride 2 (that's what's on the shoe), and a brand new pair of Mizuno Wave * (can't recall the name, but they are neutral).

All 3 times I've had a foot injury, it's been in the front part of the foot, middle, mostly under the ball- all roughly within one inch of each other. Since I've gone through so many shoes, I'm not sure what's the cause, outside of something in my gait. So I'll have that looked at, too.

Huh. Yeah, my guess is it has to be something in your gait. :( Hope you can get it resolved soon.

You know, so is mine. The liquid calories are gone, definitely eating more protein, and that paralyzing fear of food is gone. And though I'm sitting at 220, I'm able to run faster than I was at 165. On my TNT group runs, I'm actually leading the way and my coaches wish they had my energy.

I wish I could get back to that point. After swearing off soda for Lent in 2010 I didn't have any for the rest of the year, then lapsed early this year. Starting to do better, drinking soda primarily only on travel days. Though still have plenty of liquid calories from various fruit juices..

So, I took on the last big long run for this training cycle yesterday. 14 miles, and my goal was to cruise 10-20 seconds slower than my expected, "please let me hit this" race pace of 8:00. I was hitting it perfectly until mile 9, when I stopped for some water and a Gu. After that, I couldn't get myself back under 9:00 no matter what I did. I was also getting cold and a bit shaky, but I pushed through and finished the run (2:01:33, avg 8:40 pace).
After I finished, I had some water. I was starting to feel queasy, but I didn't think much of it because it happens to me sometimes after I go long. Well, it started getting worse and worse throughout the morning and I started having dizziness, a headache, and trouble focusing. Basically, I felt like I had been drinking and I was hitting the bad end of the night. I wound up getting sick and sending myself home from work. Got home, slept, and spent the rest of the day feeling like I had a horrible hangover. In talking to my mom, what happened is that I had a reaction to the Gu I used (which I later noticed had expired and I threw the rest of it away) and was crazy dehydrated. My sister had been having the same reactions whenever she used Gu (or any gel, for that matter) and she started using Endurolyte pills and a small serving of sugar/honey on her long stuff instead. So, I'm going to give that strategy a whirl on a 10 next week to see how it goes, and I'll roll from there.

But, crazy-drunken-feeling-reactions aside, I'm moderately pleased with how that run went. Last year on the same day, I did 12 in 2:05, so I went 2 miles longer 4 minutes faster. :) It's amazing the difference a year has made.

Crazy scary reaction, you had there 'diva.

Glad you cleared it up.

Not sure if it helps, but we've been using honey things we've gotten from REI for some time. Tastes good, that's for sure.

Finally, got in a 30.5 mile ride today, probably double the length of my longest all Summer. It was nice on a weekend where I didn't have other commitments for once.

But being honest, seeing that you posted the most recent one, and knowing what happened to 'diva yesterday, made me a little worried. Not a lot, but a cringe....

On a more serious note- have you guys found a swimmer? You are 2/3 of a tri team.

Haha, I'm alive and well, no worries.

And, I said the same thing (about the swimmer) to him earlier today. We just hired a guy at work who was a competitive swimmer in high school, so there's always him. That being said, I'm planning on taking on a sprint tri next summer.
