Think it might be time for me to start looking to join an actual gym. The fitness center at my apartment complex has been a great help and convenience over the past year, but the few weight lifting machines it has just aren't doing it for me anymore. I need some free weights. I was out of town for a conference at the end of last week and worked out in the hotel gym - free weights kicked my butt. My stabilizing muscles (particularly in my shoulders, which I've had problems with in the past) need some work that they just aren't getting from machines.

Those of you who have me as a friend on Facebook have already seen this, but here it is for the rest of you:
That would be yours truly with Kara Goucher. She was in town visiting family and for a presentation/book signing.
25 minutes? You'll be fine!Shes pretty cute. Nice pic.
So I decided to sign up for the redhook 5k in new Hampshire which takes place in a few weeks. Thought that I would need to ‘train’ since I am more of a sprinter, but I managed to bang out a 25 minute ( or so) 5k on my first real attempt. It wasn’t as bad as I thought and was more hindered by an aching lower back than lack of leg strength. I could have hit an 8 minute pace as my legs are in pretty good shape and do not tire easily. All my friends are doing this so now there is a lot on the table for bragging rights. None of us are that serious about it so its more for fun than anything else.
Looking forward to getting back into crossfit when I go full time and move into my own apartment. Bodybuilding stuff has been fun, but its getting boring. On the bright side, street hockey season has commenced.
Lost 17 lbs since January (including taking a month off from the gym due to difficulty managing commitments). Even better the bf has lost 23lbs!

The Fifth-Third 25K is in 13 days, and I am feeling more relaxed abotu this race than I have the past couple years. Yesterday when I was out for a 12 miler, everything was in its right place. My shinsplints didn't bother me, my energy was up, and I managed to finish in 2:14:31. I might not finish in 2:45:00, but it's going to be better than last year.
Exactly. Don't get caught in the excitement at the starting line, just stick to your own pace, and speed up as you feel led. During a 5K, I generally hold back until the 2.5 mile mark, and then I make my move, picking people off as I go.Thanks! It seems all about pacing ones self so you don’t crash. On one hand, you could have too much energy and not hit the time per mile you desire, but on the other, you can become gassed if you try too much too quickly. 3 miles is a long ways to run. That said, no additional training on my behalf…just gonna do it. Will post results after its ( The bloodbath) over
