Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Monthly check in time...

Squat: 235x3x5... had a reset... starting to stall in general
Bench: 175x3x5 max... still working back... next 175... should clear through this and go higher next month
Press: 115x3x5... pretty heavy... may stall soon
Deadlift: 240... ick... need to be stronger
Power Clean: 114... mix of kg and lbs.

Hello Mr. Wall... pleased to meet you

Squat: 255x3x5... records from now will be one set of 5 (I think)
Bench: 182.5x3x5
Press: 115x3x5
Deadlift: 260x5
Hang Clean: 100x5x3... need to improve form and power so I'm doing hang cleans as opposed to straight power cleans. My legs are too strong at this point so I'm not getting good form on power cleans.

Now that I've met Mr. Wall I'll have to change my program to weekly progress. My co-worker/coach is drawing up an "intermediate" program... I was hoping to get further beforehand but my squat form is bad (back issues) and my pressing lifts are at their limits. I was hoping to progress further before hitting the wall... but you always want to think you'll be great at the new thing you're doing.

Eh... time to shift gears on the training. I'm also working on adjusting my diet... I know (loosely) what I want to do... and I'll actualize parts of it... just gotta do it.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

You could do three of those in a weekend. How about we plan to run Boston in 2012 and then hit the other three. :)

I'm actually nailing New Hampshire this trip, so that's taken care of. I'll hit Rhode Island and Connecticut sometime with my new employer...

Cool. I am trying to get my employer to help me cover Oregon (Portland) and if I didnt have two trips to vegas this year, I would try to convince my employer to send me there.

OK off to the warrior dash, a bunch of people from my gym are competing in it. Hopefully I can make it thru the day without itching my skin raw. On my run thursday I got about 100 mosquito bites. You wanna bet if I ever forget to put on bug spray again?

No pressure.

None at all.

Just registered for the Detroit Free Press Marathon.

The whole 26.2 miles.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Just biked 2/3 of the way around Lake Bemidji (11 miles). Quite the change from my 2 mile each way commute to work. Also brought the family - **** proud of my daughter for making it the whole way!

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

My arm sling did not come off today; other than walking and riding a bike, what else can I do? Leg weights? Stairs?

When my arm was in a sling after shoulder surgery, I did the Stairmaster, stationary bike and walked. I was also able to do most leg and ab exercises that didn't require use of the arm.

stairs sounds better than nothing... and nothing isn't probably wise.

Thanks; with that in mind, I'll keep riding the stationary bike and start using leg weights. Also, with the Detroit marathon in the distance, I'll extend the length of my walks so I'm on pace with the training schedule.

My kid (12) starts crossfit today. Be interesting to see how he likes this.

So if you end up on the news with social workers in the background, we'll presume it didn't go so well? :D

They are starting up a crossfit kids at my affiliate soon - I'm wondering how you scale something like crossfit for kids (especially the really little ones). Clearly they can't do the weightlifting. Maybe a 12 year old can, but not a 6 or 7 year old!

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

got about two weeks until my first tri of the season. I'm feeling pretty good; my open water swims have been going pretty well. My cycling continues to improve, and overall my running is fine.

Should be good to go. :)
