Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I was surprised at how emotional Leyland got. It just seems strange that a guy who is usually so stoic no matter the outcome would be brought to tears by a division title. I think the only other time I've seen him tear up was the night Ernie died.

3-0 final.

Justin Verlander: 24 wins. And he may have two starts left.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Oh, and the guy that held us to 1 hit over 7 innings today? That Moscoso guy? We had him in our system. We traded him...........for Gump Laird.

I wouldn't think he has 2 starts left, though. Game 1 of the ALDS is September 30, and it's a pretty safe bet that he's pitching that game, so he would only be able to start 1 more regular-season game. I'm guessing Verlander starts on Saturday against Baltimore; that gives him 5 days rest between now and his last start, and 5 days between that start and Game 1.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

You're right. There's 9 games left, and he'll pitch squarely in the middle of that, so he wouldn't get another start anyway.

At this point I'd like to see Avila get some serious rest (like, playing no more than 5 of the last 9 games of the season), as he's taken a pounding. And I'd like to see the Tigers score about 15 runs in Verlander's last start, so that he only has to pitch 5 innings, and save a little on the wear and tear on that arm.

Hopefully the fact that Meijer is selling ALDS Champion shirts right next to the AL Central Champion shirts doesn't jinx us in a couple of weeks.

And that's exactly how Leyland has announced his rotation.

25 wins would be a nice way to cap off a great regular season. Possible 95 win season, too, with a 6-3 finish.

Who buys an ALDS champion T-shirt?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

The Chiefs are getting their revenge on the Lions. They lead 7-0 in the fourth.

Opposite team homer light is dangerously close to coming out.

PEREZ!!!

2-run shot to right-center.

9-1 Royals, bottom 5.

Penny was not sharp at all (there's one helluva revelation there), but he didn't get much help. Then Below got touched for Perez's shot.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Rod Allen: "Don't know what happened with Raburn in the outfield that allowed the runner to score..."

I can tell you exactly what happened. Ryan Raburn was in the outfield in the first place.

KELLY!!!

A bomb to right-center.

6-3, top 8

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

90 wins. Wow. Could win 95- for a team held together by shoelaces and bubble gum prior to the all star game. The trade deadline moves secured an extra 10 wins IMO. More playoff roster options now and a legit chance to beat NY or Boston. I just hope Leyland doesn't over manage like I think he will. BUT, you cannot argue with how he has push the right buttons the last six weeks.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Yeah, I'm wondering how many times Don Kelly hits 2nd in the postseason.

DELMON!!!

5-5, bottom 5.

Tuner gets bailed out with a no-decision. These guys looked dead for 4 innings. No energy whatsoever.

Then Pauley immediately gives up the winning run. Nothing like mailing in these games like spring training.

it's a futile race for the last playoff roster spot: Pauley or Penny.
