Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Well, if they had hit the **** ball after the 1st inning, or had a big 1st inning after having the bases loaded with none out, this game would have been much different. We did absolutely nothing offensively tonight. And in case we're not paying attention, Cabrera has been in an awful slump for about a week now, and doesn't even look like himself the past couple games. He needs a day or two off.

Cabrera's back is wonky... not good. This game was a classic example of a team that *could* win 85-90 games and screw that up.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Yep. Rained out.

Oh, and other news in this evenings Detroit News. Benoit has lost the set-up job for the duration.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Benoit is lucky he hasn't been deported after the way he has played.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Saw on twitter that the Tigers are having Coke make his last start then back to the pen, calling up LH Charlie Furbush from Toledo. Speculation, but worthy of discussion. Benoit was yanked by Leyland, new set up guy is Al-Albaquerque....

Tough to let this name slip past unnoticed.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

That name's been on my radar for a couple years, for more than one reason :p. At least his parents didn't name him Harold.

I'm surprised that it's Furbush and not Oliver.

Oh, and Armando Galarraga got DFA'd by Arizona today.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

I didn't realize this series got moved from Boston to London. I'm waiting for Jack the Ripper to come out of the Green Monster and shank the left fielder.

I would be more worried about some West Ham United fans popping out before Jack.

Scoreless thru five.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Dear Ryan Raburn:

You already lead the league in strikeouts. There's no need to take a called third and jaw at the umpire. There's a reason they sent you to the plate with that big round wooded stick in your hand.

Sincerely,

The fans of the 2011 Detroit Tigers.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

With the rain being substituted for fog, now would be a good time to get the roller skates off of Raburn and get him out of the outfield.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Okay, file that one under "Great play! Don't ever ****ing do it again!!!"

Well, the way the fog was tonight, Ron Guidry could have pitched with his right foot and got a quality start.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

See? Once the fog lifted somewhat, kaboom. Red Sox score first.

Saltalamacchia bounces one off the monster deep in left center. I'm not second-guessing Marlboro Jimmy on this one. Danny Schlereth should be able to get a struggling lefty out. That one's on him.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

After a hit batter, and a fan screaming out "you're mother's a whore!!" afterwards (no, I'm not making any of this up), Schlereth is done. Not a good performance out of him at all.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

As soon as I saw Raburn at the plate with 2 outs, I knew we were *ed.

I wasn't disappointed.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Since May 5, Cabrera is 5 for his last 32, hitting .156. He's slugging a whopping .219 in that same stretch.
