Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Kubel is pretty much the only bright spot this season in our batting order.

Bingo. Any time we have won, Kubel was the big factor. Anytime we didn't get blown out, Kubel was the big factor. Any time we got just killed, Kubel drove in the run or two we got. Everyone else is terrible.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Man, it is just not happening for Magglio, is it? And it's not early anymore.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Boesch needed that one badly. He was really starting to slide.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Cabrera is already at 10 intentional walks for the season and on pace for about 43. The AL record is 33. The non-Barry Bonds NL record is 45.

Go check Kubel's, NadSpan's and Morneau's BA against the Tigers. I'm beginning to wonder if Morneau has recovered, though. When Mauer & co. return to the lineup, it will change.

Nice to exorcise some demons at the Twins expense last night.

Were you arguing they are good or bad vs the Tigers? Its hard to tell.

Denard Span dominates the Tigers for his career. In 49 games he is hitting .370.
Jason Kubel in 73 games is hitting .286.
Justin Morneau in 95 games is hitting .318.

I would have swore that Kubel's average would have been 100 points higher. Maybe it is with RISP? Seems like he's always crushing us.

But yeah, the Twins looked pretty terrible last night from what I saw. The pen is something else.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

5 game lead on the White Sox and 5.5 on the Twins. We're definitely sitting pretty for the division so far.

.....wait, what? Cleveland? You're full of it. No way.

I was arguing that the Twins kill our pitching, especially when you have your full compliment of players available. Thome, Mauer etc are truly missed but we aren't shedding any tears.

Currently the Tigers are 4.5 GB with the Indians having played 3 less games. That's a max 6 GB. It can be made up- especially when you go 8-2 over the last 10 and continue to outhit your poor relief pitching.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

The bloom's gonna be off that rose pretty quick. Though they do have series against the bad Mariners and White Sox, Cleveland has games with Cincinnati, Boston, Tampa Bay, Texas and the Yankees before mid-June.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Oh, roster move I forgot to mention.

Magglio to the DL, effective May 11. Andy Dirks got the call to replace him.

JACKSON!!!

Lead-off shot to left-center.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

And Verlander's Vandermeer bid ends with 2 out in the 6th, on Melky Cabrera's RBI triple to right center.

I can go get dinner now.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Even though Cabrera just scalded that one to dead center for a double, it still looks like his legs are bothering him.
