Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

So a repeat of last year then?

I would think the chances of them going 16-0 are greater than having a repeat of last season.

They should have won at least 4 games last season. Both games against Minnesota should have been wins, and they could have won the Chicago games as well.

Where does the "Should've been wins" column appear in the standings?

Nowhere obviously. My point being, it is nearly impossible to not win at least 1 game in the NFL. Most teams will win 2 or 3 by accident. The chances of the Lions going 0-16 two years in a row are probably worse than being struck by lightning.

I'd take that bet if Marinelli was still coaching, even with the defensive talent they signed and the offensive skill they drafted.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

going 0-32 is possible, and not totally out of the realm of possibilities. But if there's any team that could screw up losing that badly, it would be the Lions.

Oh so he can trade barbs with Peter King's vertically-challenged boyfriend from the Red Sox.

Yeah, even I can make dwarf jokes all day long and I don't belong in the NFL.

I hope he can get it done, it'd be tremendous but I raise the same red flags as King does. He threw a lot of INTs in college and had a better running back there than he does in Detroit and probably a better offensive line to boot.

Are you drunk?

There is not a single offensive line in all of college that is better than the worst in the NFL.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Yes, every single game possible.

I will repeat myself. The Detroit Lions are better than EVERY SINGLE college football team.

Billy Billy Billy, You need to stop holding out on us man. Puff! Puff! Give! Don't mess up the rotation!!!

And I'm just going to assume you didn't watch a whole lot of college ball last year did you??

JFC, I'm ready to throw the Bills' OL against the best college line, they are that bad, and the Lions' line is 2x as bad as the Bills.

That should give you a clue.

Okay. Here's a math exercise.

Pretend that Georgia's offensive line was an 7 out of ten. The average defensive front they faced was perhaps a 5 out of ten. You usually will get time to throw the ball back there.

Meanwhile, the Lions O-line is better, at say, 11 out of ten. The problem is their average opposition is 15 out of ten. Therefore, standing behind the Detroit O-line leads to one being on their back more than a Las Vegas hooker.

Therefore, for all appearances, he had a better line. Georgia on average was more talented than their opponents. When they weren't, well, Stafford throws 3 picks and loses 49-10. Detroit's talent level is up from last year, but still mediocre at best.

I understand what you are saying. There still is no way that a college team is better than a pro team.

The guys that played at top colleges were the best guys from their highschools. NFL guys are now the best guys from their colleges. It just doesn't make any sense. No college team sends every single player to the NFL, so the debate is just ludicris.

So the Lions are good at getting the best guys from sh-tty colleges.

Well, they are fond of dipping into the Michigan and Michigan State pools so, yeah, this does make a lot of sense.

You don't understand what he's saying. He's saying that he's not going to get as good of protection - relative to the talent on the other side of the ball - as he got at Georgia.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Our offensive line is going to be much improved this season.

You still won't convince me that a college team could ever beat the Lions.

Could a high school team ever beat a D-I football team? Heck no!
