Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

GLM, the only problem is, Kevin Smith's knee is like shredded cheese at the moment, and I've read multiple rumblings that he may not be ready to go for the regular season, let alone training camp. The one I would have loved to have grabbed, maybe in the 3rd if he's still there, is the kid from Stanford (Gerhart, and I'm not going looking on the spelling).

They've got to focus primarily on defense here, and mix in a lineman or two somewhere along the line.

If that's the case, they're not getting a starting RB in the draft and they're still filling with chaff. No need to deviate from the plan.

Yeah, that was some of the reasoning behind all of the RB in the second round talk I had heard before the trade yesterday. Gepheart, hell, he might be the one RB worth pulling the trigger on if he's still around in the third, and hell, the fourth, snatch him up and remind him of all the teams that passed on him several times. Short of that, stick to the Plan!

You should be able to win 2 games in the NFL just by accident, the 2008-09 team exempted. They'll beat the Bucs and the Rams, and maybe the Bears, but it's going to be tough to see more wins at this point in time.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

So... Did we all pass out because the Lions had an awesome first day or what?

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

I was expecting them to go straight defense through the first 2 days and then look to the other side of the ball in the later rounds. I like the move to get Best, as he will be very affordable and.a great asset to this team.

Overall I think we grade out with an "A" for the day.

Just as long as his brains aren't like scrambled eggs after a couple hits.

Now the Lions need to come home with a competent corner and an offensive lineman in the next two days. Not 3 year projects, mind you, but people that can contribute immediately.

Might be a tough call to find, but clearly Mayhew seems to have a handle on how to do things. Coughing up the picks they did to move up, I hope, was worth it and it seems that it was. If they can slide up once more to get that CB or OL in the 2nd or top of the third that'd be outstanding.

I like the fact that they are being aggressive. The GM whom we do not speak of never made aggressive moves to get a player they wanted. Sure he picked the guys he wanted, but do you ever remember him making a trade up a round to get a player he was excited about? I like that Mayhew has the ability to do more than just pick the best player on the board when the time comes.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

The idiot that preceded Mayhew did jump up to take Kevin Jones in the 1st round the same year he took Roy Williams.

Ah yes I forgot about that. Well ****...here we go with more of the same!

Personally, what really brings down this draft by the Lions is the Best Pick. Hell, to make me happy, all they had to do was just draft some bum that had LB next to his name in the position chart. Had they done that, they could have drafted punters and kickers the rest of the draft and still walked away with a strong B+, Now, it looks more like a C

Insanity.

Another question:

Did Myron Rolle get drafted? You know, the Rhodes (sp?) Scholar. If not, why didn't we take a flyer on him on the last pick of the entire draft? It is a position of need. It's not like we'd be out much at all if he didn't pan out.
