Deparatment of Redundancy Department

Re: Deparatment of Redundancy Department

I used to (10 times) participate in a 5-day long bike ride in support of MS, TRAM. people on the ride or in reports in the paper would call it The TRAM, making it The The Ride Across Minnesota. Really annoyed me.

University of Maryland University College.

Are you effing serious? The fact that they chose that name should be enough to deter even a half-wit from enrolling in that program.

Minnesota State University at Mankato. Not really redundant, but you know? Just stick with Mankato State. You sound ridiculous now.

Re: Deparatment of Redundancy Department

This isn't quite "redundancy", it's a related game called "connotation vs denotation" that is particularly popular in politics these days.

Here's one example:

I'm principled.
My spouse is stalwart.
My children are dedicated
My friends are determined.
People I don't know are persistent.
People who annoy me are stubborn.
People I dislike are pig-headed.
People I really dislike are intransigent.
My political opponents are obviously deranged, insanely clinging to an ineffective outmoded discredited ideology that has no useful purpose in the modern world.

One of my colleagues yesterday kept talking about having "plenty enough" power for a particular project. He's a nice guy, but come on...

They're just trying to be uppity. That's how Oxford/Cambridge are organized - lots of separate colleges within one university framework. There's even one called University College at Oxford, so students there go to the University of Oxford University College.

But yes, still redundant!

UMUC is the night school that helps professionals get degrees. It actually works and many of the instructors have experience in the field they are teaching, unlike the day school.

Similarly, I got my degree through the Augsburg College Augsburg For Adults/Weekend College program. Good program, silly name.

And I'm glad it wasn't the University of Nebraska offering that night school - getting a UNUC degree doesn't appeal to me

Can you imagine how much worse it would be to get a degree from Eastern University of Nebraska University College - Hastings?!?

(and we thought the South Holland Institute of Technology was a cr^ppy degree...)

If you're going there, I think they require you get your two-year degree from the Cleveland University of Technology - Nautical/Undersea Technical Systems program.

My opponant's wife is a well known thespian.

Or as Gallagher says in mocking political ads where the candidate introduces his children: "Oh good, his dik works."
