Denver vs New Hampshire 3/29 NCAA Northeast Regional

Re: Denver vs New Hampshire 3/29 NCAA Northeast Regional

When UNH beat Miami in the 1st game of the 2011 NE Regionals in Manchester, the economy was arguably worse, but as I recall, the atmosphere in 2011 was pretty good.(We then lost to Notre Dame the next night.) There were definitely more UML fans than UNH supporters last night, and I'd bet that the edge in crowd support will be for UML rather than UNH tonight, as they are gathering fans of fallen teams on their bandwagon. I do wish I saw a bigger showing of UNH students last night.

We actually noticed how few UNH students appeared to be there, knowing Lowell sent three bus loads up and others got up there on their own. Daughter was amused though by the UNH band and students over in the balcony doing their "jumpy" thing. But I agree that UML had a large amount of fans but hard to compare who had more overall, Lowell or UNH, as the majority of Lowell fans left after the first game.

Is it me or did both goumas and downing get hatricks against denver in december, hmmm who got head injuries tonight , targeted by the goon squad , maybe
I thought the same after the Goumas hit. Denver lost one of their best players so I'd like to think it was a free-lanced stupid play, not a plan. I lost some respect for Denver tonight, gained some for the 'cats. We didn't back down, but also showed discretion and best of all retaliated on the score board.

I was there for both, and I'd say UML had more fans watching their game than UNH had watching ours. And I don't get why fans (excepting students, who often have their own agenda) leave after their team has played -- it's still good hockey, no matter who is playing.

The hit on Goumas deserved the 5 minute major. I just don't agree with the way it was called. There was no penalty called on the play and the officials allowed the play to continue while Goumas was down. Then after the fact they decide to call a penalty, which I don't agree with. One Ref even appeared to be looking at a replay. Can you use replays to call a penalty?

Clearly they did which was surprising. Replay is out of control in all sports.

Re: Denver vs New Hampshire 3/29 NCAA Northeast Regional

If there is a potential major infraction I don't have a problem with them looking. As long as it's not going to be for every little 2 minute minor. That said, I was surprised at how that transpired...didn't think it was an option, but obviously I was mistaken.

Nominated for most stupid comment on the thread. Congratulations, sir!

Re: Denver vs New Hampshire 3/29 NCAA Northeast Regional

I think the apparent severity of the injury (Goumas lying motionless on the ice) made the refs think twice. But clearly the hit was a penalty, and one deserving a game misconduct. The ref, who seemed to be watching it as it happened, should have blown the whistle. As horrible as some of the reffing was in Manchester last night, I think they made the right call to see if it was inadvertent or intentional, again, given Goumas' apparent condition.

Then these 2 events are just coincidental, completely unrelated to each other, right?

Yes. He received a buddy pass and had his head down. The contact to the head was incidental, and ncaa rules don't allow the ref to use replay to make that call. Period.

Sore winners.

Good luck the rest of the way to UNH, the fans being d1ck$ on here, go to hell.

Was one of them Mayfield...because that would make sense.

You cannot. They can only use replay to make sure it's called on the correct player, which is what is being claimed.

By the way, I'm assuming we'll see more fans tomorrow night? What's up with that? Has it gotten to the point where people are saying "They've disappointed me too many times so I'm not buying into it?" It seemed pretty subdued on TV - even when UHN scored it wasn't particularly raucous. And where were all these billions of Lowell fans that were going to pack the Verizon Wireless center? I can't believe it's because it's Easter weekend - after all, New England is practically a pagan region now...
Think some of it may be ticket price, which is decided by the NCAA and out of UNH's hands. I paid $32 to sit lowerlevel at the Garden last week maybe 15 rows from the ice - this week I paid $44 to sit in the balcony in Manchester... My question is, if the NCAA concedes that they seed teams with the stated intent of maximizing attendance then why don't ticket prices also reflect that intent?

Fwiw, attendance listed as 8,049 for the two games combined, a sellout is somewhere in the region of 10,000.

It is only a stupid comment until you review the last minute of the game and note DU players lining up checks near the boards (special note on last 10 seconds) .... when the score was 5-2. Being one of the NCAA most penalized teams also contributes to the comment having some credence ......

I think the way the game is called now that is a 5 but I'm not sold on any intent being there other than one guy was standing taller than the other.
