Game Day!!

Go Fighting Sioux!! I will be watching through my phone, thanks to this glorious site.

Sioux get 3/4 points this weekend.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Note TV change on Saturday night. FSC Central game is now on FCS Atlantic.

Mike Chambers in his blog notes that William Wrenn and Luke Salazar did not make the trip to UND. Wrenn is out with a hip injury. Either Cody Brookwell or Paul Phillips will take his spot as both made the trip. Salazar is healthy and just didn't make the traveling party.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

It does exist in college hockey. Personally I don't have a problem with it.
The fans may think there is a "code" but I seriously doubt it.

UND's Matt Smaby stepped on Brock Trotter’s right leg in the process of delivering a check in 2005. Smaby’s skate came down like a guillotine and severed Trotter’s Achilles tendon. There wasn't any retaliation.

Look whats going on in college sports. Coaches are getting fired for all sorts of things (Texas Tech, Kansas, Indiana). Ordering retaliation and if a serious injury occurred (broken neck) would probably get any coach fired. Georgetown's John Tompson was suspended for ordering a retaliation a couple of years ago. The best revenge is victory.

Are you suggesting Smaby intended to injure Trotter? You must be otherwise your comment is irrelevant.

Holy cow you are an idiot. The code is about respecting your opponent and playing straight up. It has nothing to do with accidents. Dolt

Whoa there! DG is a veteran poster whose opinions are revered all over this board. A little respect please!

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

I think there are multiple views of the "code" and whether it exists at the college level.

Some posters believe that a major hostile act against a player on your team requires eventual retaliation ('an eye for an eye') by players on your team against the perpetrator of the orginal act, as sometimes happens in the NHL and Canadian Junior hockey as a "settlement".

Others seem the think the "code" is what keeps players from said retaliation.

Retaliation, in college, is not universal. Some teams do it, others don't, and as such, the 'code', in my opinion, exists only in small circles.

This is what happens when you make up quotes and attribute them to Mike Chambers. DG's USCHO posting career is in shambles!!!

Sioux Split. Gwoz JUMPS! JUMPS! JUMPS!

I should have retired from USCHO when DU and myself were in our prime after the 2005 National Championship game.

DU sweeps: 2005 NC Game DU 4-UND 1

You used to be young, round and full of juice. Like a grape. Now you're all old, dry and withered. Like a raisin. Grapes are tasty. Raisins are yucky.

Sioux Split. Gwoz does the locomotion with me.

Jess Meyers does have a sense of humor

"EARPLUG TIME AT THE RALPH?
This weekend will be Denver’s first visit to North Dakota since last year at about this time, when the Fighting Sioux got a sweep, and four very important points en route to winning the MacNaughton Cup. That was also the weekend that Pioneers coach George Gwozdecky, after an on-ice fracas, made his now-legendary stroll across the ice to speak to the officials, on his way to an ejection.
Needless to say, some Sioux fans have been saving some choice words for coach Gwoz for a long time, eagerly anticipating his return. We’re sure there will be the standard pre-game announcements warning against the use of “foul and abusive language” by fans and threatening ejection for same. We wonder, if ushers stringently enforce that threat, will there be any Sioux fans left in the building by the third period?"

OK, my response was over the top, and for that I apologize. However, it's hard to believe that a hockey fan does not understand the difference between an accident and a cheep shot and the application of the code (or not) in either circumstance.

Gwozdecky should've been removed from the building after his ejection here, last year. That would've prevented him from breaking the rules and communicating with the DU bench after being ejected.

I understand what you are saying but that was a very bad example. Accidents happen. They are different. I am talking about cheap shots, with intent to injure. Specifically Marvin knew what he was doing when he hit Genoway.

Gotta agree. Marvin knew what he was doing when he left the blue line. A 'leaping' CFB at the back of Chay's head? It's hard to see any other reason for Marvin's actions other than to cause injury. Criminal.

I don't support retaliation, but those who do point to incidents like this.

(what attitude?)
