Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

The fans may think there is a "code" but I seriously doubt it.

UND's Matt Smaby stepped on Brock Trotter’s right leg in the process of delivering a check in 2005. Smaby’s skate came down like a guillotine and severed Trotter’s Achilles tendon. There wasn't any retaliation.

Look whats going on in college sports. Coaches are getting fired for all sorts of things (Texas Tech, Kansas, Indiana). Ordering retaliation and if a serious injury occurred (broken neck) would probably get any coach fired. Georgetown's John Tompson was suspended for ordering a retaliation a couple of years ago. The best revenge is victory.

That isn't the same thing that was an accident, Marvins and Paukovich's brutal CFB's were different.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

I think there are multiple views of the "code" and whether it exists at the college level.

Some posters believe that a major hostile act against a player on your team requires eventual retaliation ('an eye for an eye') by players on your team against the perpetrator of the orginal act, as sometimes happens in the NHL and Canadian Junior hockey as a "settlement".

Others seem the think the "code" is what keeps players from said retaliation.

Retaliation, in college, is not universal. Some teams do it, others don't, and as such, the 'code', in my opinion, exists only in small circles.

I guarantee if someone from the opposition team followed Rhett Rakhshani and or Tyler Ruegsegger up the ice skated around another player to deliberately try to injure them by jamming their head into the boards with an elbow and injuring said player that a DU Pioneers would answer that brutal act. To suggest otherwise is disingenuous. Denver University is not the choir boys some of you like to suggest. There is a code in college hockey.

North Dakota does that after being swept? Interesting tradition.:)

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Chevy steps up and wins a crucial road game in a hostile barn and the Denver P/K goes 9 for 9 and stopped an otherwise aggressive UND team. UND out-skated and outshot DU, but at the end of the day, both teams had plenty of chances to win, and DU got the job done.

Pioneers were clinically efficient early by storming out to a 2 goal lead and that was all Chevy needed tonight to get his sixth shutout of the season.

Jesse Martin is probably out for the next 3 games with an "upper body injury" suffered in the first period.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

If UND loses tomorrow, the season is over. This team is depressing.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

UND looked very good to me. Skated hard, got pucks deep, created lots of chances. They were the better team over the 60 minutes, but the flat start was costly, and Chevy was in position for most of the rest. Not scoring on the 5 on 3 was a turning point, and misfiring on 9 PPs will kill any team.

DU got a little bit too conservative once they went up by two, and it almost bit them. Would like to see more forchecking tomorrow night from the Pios.

Too bad Martin is hurt and will be out for a while. Would like to see Ryder in for Brookwell. Cody had a rough night.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Thank you, guys, for providing me with my hockey fix for the night since the UW game wasn't on for DISH subscribers. Good game.

You used to be young, round and full of juice. Like a grape. Now you're all old, dry and withered. Like a raisin. Grapes are tasty. Raisins are yucky.

Sioux Split. Gwoz does the locomotion with me.

so, I assume you are a frozen sugar beet?

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

First time since '05 that DU got a win in Grand Forks. DU raced out to the early lead, weathered the UND storm and was able to hang on for the win. Chevy was spectacular. Its not often that you kill 9 PPs in a road game. Props to the PKers. UND played a strong home game but could not find the back of the net.

UND PP misses Genoway in the worst way. Marto tries but he doesn't read the play as well as Chay does.

DU needs to get Weircioch into the offense more. And Brookwell had a bad, bad night. Scoring twice early took a lot of the juice out of the UND crowd. Quiet building for most of the game.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Why did UND pull their frosh goalie so early? I know he gave up 2 early goals, but so did Scott Gudmanson tonight and he didn't get pulled.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Since I'm watching the horrid online feed of Minnesota/UAA right now, I watched this game as well. Hell of a good game. Chevy is outstanding, although I'm not sure that goalie interference call that waived off the goal by (Knight?) was a good one. UND looked very good tonight. Chevy is going to need his A game tomorrow night too for a DU sweep.

It was never goalie interference. The Sioux TV announcers got it wrong. Knight was called for interfering with a DU defenseman before the goal was scored, not interfering with Chevy, so it wasn't reviewable.

Thank you for the clarification. I was watching the FSSN feed and could not figure out how it was a goalie interference, but this makes much more sense.

don't be wrecking a good sue cry fest with facts. I want to read about some lawnmower tossing, elevator whizzing, and a few arrests before this is put to bed.
