Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

These late start times for us in the lower 48 seem really odd. I guess when the Seawolves play in Houghton, it must start at lunch time.

I feel for you and for the rookies. wow…….have to lace’m up about their bedtime and a few still petrified of the dark even after coach brought them up early a day so they wouldn’t cry themselves to bed all weekend. Kind of sad watching them head off the bus at the arena by the back door because the rookies all have on their snuggie’s dragging their hockey bag with one hand clutching their much loved stuffed animal in the other.

You described that so well I wonder how many times you've done it yourself  ;)

DU won 3-2.:)

The gci link is dicey. It worked well for some...for awhile.. and you do need to refresh it periodically, well often, but it is free.

Worked pretty much perfect for me! Only had to refresh once. It probably has a lot to do with how good your internet connection is.

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

I thought UAA played w/ DU all night. If it were not for the flukey goal from Leinweber, it's a tie game. Of course it took DU a 5 on 3 to get their first goal. Note to refs: lifting a players stick is not hooking! Note to UAA defensemen, clear the puck AWAY from your goalie!

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

Suze, missed you last night on the score thread, but figured you must be at the game.

Didn't see the DU assisted by UAA goal, but even the DU announcer called it the flukiest goal he had ever seen.

The transplants, Murray and Wrenn, acquitted themselves pretty well for their family and friends. :)

Hi viz, yup I was at the game, sick. Should have been home probably. Hubby bought me an iPhone for my birthday, so I might use it tonight to check in from the Sully. I hope the Wolves give me a nice present tonight.

The goal was not assisted by UAA, Curtis tried to clear the puck, it bounced off of Jonnie O and into his net. It was not scored by a DU player.

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

Congrats to my Wolves for a dominating game. Finally the scorers stepped up and chased Murray from the net. Maybe I should be glad he turned down UAA.

That was the WORST reffed game ever, UAA had 41 penalty minutes, two periods full. Ticky tacky stuff called on UAA when blatant tripping, cross checking and interference let go on DU. I hope Shyiak asks for the league to review the game, or do they already do that on Sundays?

The kid who LaFranchise hip checked really milked that for all it was worth. He laid on the ice for several minutes, then never even went to the bench - the ref actually made him get off the ice and go to the bench. I think Kane got a DQ too, bad bad bad. Shyiak should appeal that decision.

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

Gotta disagree, it was a great hip check. No way is that a DQ.

Gotta disagree. LaFranchise has been a cheap hack and dirty player his whole career. And while I do respect you to the utmost Suze, I find it funny that you defend a hit like his, while you certainly wanted to throw Paul Stastny under the bus while I was in AK for a coincidental "running" of the UAA goalie.

I agree 100% about the LaFranshise call. It was announced as a DQ (however the box score only shows it as a game misconduct) and shouldn't have been anything more than 2 min for interference, IF THAT! It was a beautiful hip check. Not to mention the DU player taking a nice little hop before receiving the check to help propel him like it did. I am wholeheartedly sorry that he's hurt and I hope its not too serious, but the call is absolutely preposterous!

Neither game this weekend was very well reffed. Both teams should be pretty well disgusted. I pity whichever team has #5 (Justin Brown) as a ref. He was absolutely ridiculous: calling stuff that was completely random (as in a tripping penalty on a guy who was taking the puck...several times), to missing the most obvious of things (holding 2 feet in front of him), to anything else a person could imagine. And don't think that I'm just talking about calls for UAA's benefit, it was the same way for both teams!!

Great win for the Seawolves, but I've got to be a bit of a pessimist because that's the kind of intensity that they need to show EVERY night. Granted, they easily could have won on Friday as well, but they didn't. Be nice to keep the intensity up into next weekend, they'll certainly need it!!

And on a final note....I'd like to extend a very sincere welcome home to Mr. Murray who got incredibly lucky on Friday and got chased off the ice on Saturday!! Have a nice trip back to CO, Pioneers!

No surprise here to this post, especially in defense of the hack, dirty player LaFranchise. Nice split UAA. Have a nice sleep in your own beds, Seawolves.

Ok you took one incident and extrapolated that to his entire career? You seem to think that he intentionally went after his knee? That he meant to hurt him?

On behalf of everybody with common sense: Sierra Tango Foxtrot Uniform!

Lafranchise is not a dirty player, he's not hack. Is he agressive? Yes. Is he tough? Yes. Cheap? No.

That was a clean hit from Kane. The only reason Wiercioch got hurt was because he tried to move out of the way and stuck his legs out instead of being a man and taking the hit. He's only got himself to blame for being hurt. If anybody on the ice was a hack, it was Wiercioch. Take the hit next time, but don't blame the guy giving the hit.

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

Looks like a split. we usually match up well (similar size, speed) and looks like your goalie is a question? 6-3 , 3-2

Dman I'm awesome. split- check. DU fri UAA sat- check. And I even almost got the score right in the reverse opposite order 3-2, 7-3 (actually that was the score from last year 3-6 and 3-2)

Congrats DU on the split. 1-9-0 record but i figured we were playing at last year level which meant another split with the pios like last year.

I don't like that check by the blueline (cheap or clean), just unfortunate that a player was hurt but it's prone to causing injury and it's not all that effective... if you miss, you give up 2on1. which happened several times this week and against the rodents last week.

I respect you as well Todd, but we are never going to agree on this. Kane is in no way a hack or dirty player. That hip check happened nearly right in front of me. I hope Shyiak appeals the DQ.

EDIT: The official record now lists it as a misconduct, not a DQ.

I want to say that Wiercioch played after the hit, anyone else see that?

It took the "refs" (and I use that term loosely) forever to figure out the penalty. They were going through their little rules book trying to come up with a name for the hip check. When it was all settled, Wiercioch was still on the ice and ready to go. The ref had to escort him to the bench. And yes, he was back on the ice in his next shift.

Did he really hurt his knee? I don't know. If he did I truly am sorry, I hate to see any player get hurt. But injuries can indeed result from clean hip checks.
