Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

I agree 100% about the LaFranshise call. It was announced as a DQ (however the box score only shows it as a game misconduct) and shouldn't have been anything more than 2 min for interference, IF THAT! It was a beautiful hip check. Not to mention the DU player taking a nice little hop before receiving the check to help propel him like it did. I am wholeheartedly sorry that he's hurt and I hope its not too serious, but the call is absolutely preposterous!

Neither game this weekend was very well reffed. Both teams should be pretty well disgusted. I pity whichever team has #5 (Justin Brown) as a ref. He was absolutely ridiculous: calling stuff that was completely random (as in a tripping penalty on a guy who was taking the puck...several times), to missing the most obvious of things (holding 2 feet in front of him), to anything else a person could imagine. And don't think that I'm just talking about calls for UAA's benefit, it was the same way for both teams!!

Great win for the Seawolves, but I've got to be a bit of a pessimist because that's the kind of intensity that they need to show EVERY night. Granted, they easily could have won on Friday as well, but they didn't. Be nice to keep the intensity up into next weekend, they'll certainly need it!!

And on a final note....I'd like to extend a very sincere welcome home to Mr. Murray who got incredibly lucky on Friday and got chased off the ice on Saturday!! Have a nice trip back to CO, Pioneers!

Be careful, you will be dubbed a whiner, not by the other fans, but by your own.

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

It took the "refs" (and I use that term loosely) forever to figure out the penalty. They were going through their little rules book trying to come up with a name for the hip check.

I watched the check over and over and over again... clean hip check, terrible call.. why did it take so long to make the call, cuz the zebra made a mistake, they couldn't see anything wrong on the replay and just made some stuff up..

First is was 'clipping'? are we playing football here?? Today, officially listed as kneeing???????????????????????????

He wasn't anywhere near hitting him with his knee... what a stupid, total b.s. call. Watch it again and again... no knee, completely owned with the hip..

I for sure thought that the crushing hit in the 2nd by crowell was going to get a 5 min boarding or some other penalty... that dude had his head down and paid for it, big time.. he's feeling it today... crap that hit made me hurt..

Baldwin is the real deal, totally great.. ROCK, you all know who I'm talking about, is really a terrific player, he is awesome... **** u denver, takin those surfer boys.. UAA had a guy like that once, Steve Bogeyevich(SP?). California surfer dude, excellent hockey player..*Sorry, have to remind UAA fans of the wrap-around.. U ALL KNOW WHAT I'M TALKIN' about...

Good series, good games.. ****ty officiating...

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

I want to say that Wiercioch played after the hit, anyone else see that?

I think he came out to try it after the hit, but then headed back to the bench. Gwozdecky sounded very concerned on the post game show that he may be more seriously injured.

We need to wait and see....

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

It was a clean hip check....but in college hockey now days you cannot hit anyone anymore. UAA 4 is not a hack anymore than than Denver #9 is. CO14er you usually have good comments but that comment about Kane is a bit over the top.

He headed back to the bench because the ref made him go back to the bench. He was out there the next shift though. It will be very interesting to see if Shyiak appeals that DQ, because he should. Kane is not a dirty player, he has never been called dirty by any fan base (other than DU).

We long time (long suffering) fans all remember that wrap around goal. :)

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

I saw a lot of similarities between DU and UAA, both have their leaders who contributed, the big difference, especially in saturdays game is that UAA's underclassmen showed up, DU's didn't. I will give Rhett a nod, he is a beast, however, Rhett cannot carry DU, just like some of the seniors for our team.

On the scoreboard, yes, it was a 7-3 game. I hope that WE all realize that if Cheverie was in goal, the two games would have been different since he was extremely hot before getting injured. But the fact remains that DU as a team got beat on Saturday, and regardless of who played, it reflects in the standings.

UAA is a two faced team. We have seen different teams on Fridays and Saturdays. UAA needs to be more consistent. You take out last nights game, we still have scoring problems. In addition, scoring on the PP.

I look forward to the games in Madison this weekend, UW and Minn just split this weekend. Again, which UAA team will show up each night?

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

While it was announced as a DQ, I am pretty sure it was either changed or finally recorded on the scoresheet as a Game Misconduct, which means he won't be suspended for the next game.

I am not one to usually bag on officiating, but overall, the officiating was poor for both sides. Having six five-on-threes in a weekend series is highly, highly unusual.

The article that I received via email from UAA said that it was a DQ. Shyiak also said Kane would miss the next game. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I agree, UAA needs to be more consistent. I left the game telling my husband that there is no way we would have put 7 goals in the net with Chevy on the ice. Murray was terrible. Still, the Wolves really disrupted the DU game, forced them into playing the trap, and really looked confused at times. They have now beaten UND and DU, both highly ranked teams who had not lost a WCHA game until UAA took them on.

What I am concerned about is their performance next weekend. After beating UND, they played terrible in Minny and got swept. Do not let last nights game go to your heads, UAA. Play just as hard and as passionate as you did last night and you will take the Badger fans out of the game. You can beat them!!

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

For a hip check....what's next? Good thing Matt Robinson graduated he would only get to play in half the games!

Re: Denver @ Alaska, 11/6-11/7

Thanks Swami. It was announced as clipping. That is how the ADN lists it in their box scores. The link you posted calls the penalty kneeing. It also lists Grants 3rd period penalty as cross checking, and the ADN lists it as embellishment, which again is what was called at the game. What is up with these discrepancies?

Oh yeah, he had a great hip check, but nobody will ever be as good as Todd Bethard was at it! He had it down to an art form.

If I figured it correctly, Murrays save percentage last night was .625%. That game is really gonna mess up his numbers. It will be interesting to see if he bounces back, or if Gwoz plays the third string goalie against the Sioux. Could be ugly.

Gotta disagree. LaFranchise has been a cheap hack and dirty player his whole career. And while I do respect you to the utmost Suze, I find it funny that you defend a hit like his, while you certainly wanted to throw Paul Stastny under the bus while I was in AK for a coincidental "running" of the UAA goalie.

Lafranchise is a cheap hack and dirty player?? Are you crazy? I can guarantee you that there is no game you can go back to EVER to justify that ridiculous statement. Kane takes a minimum of penalties. He played a great week-end of hockey, was +5, had 2 Assists and had no other penalties called on him. He just did his job. That was a clean hip check. The refs made the wrong call which was why they spent a ludicrous amount of time flipping through that little book of theirs. The call is being challenged.

Sorry Suze but I can't accept that. I call it as I see it and I'm by no means the only person from either team who has brought up any of the subjects that I mentioned. The LaFranchise check was a terrible call. Reffing sucked all weekend. This UAA team isn't very consistent right now. And Murray didn't play too well. It might come off as whining but if anything its just overstating what others have already brought up.

UAA played with Denver pretty well all weekend. I can't imagine that a different goalie in net was the only factor. It might have helped not get 7 goals against on Saturday, but overall I think that either team had a chance to win on Friday. Chevy might have made some difference, but either team had the chance to win these games and it wasn't a flat-out beating by either team.
