Somewhere Lord Acton is wondering how he got so smart. I would gladly give Rangel a pass if we could put that disgusting b***h in the stocks and pelt her with used diapers.

You know that's horse ****... I know that's horse ****... give it up and give it up now.

edit: You've never cared about the Democrat's corruption problems... admit this that flat out now because a lot of this stuff has been rolling there for decades. The Democratic Party has always been a cornerstone of American corruption.... and its easier to do when your followers think you are on the side of the angels and saintly. I hold no illusions of Republicans.

In the post-war era, the capital of political corruption in America was and continues to be, Chicago. I grew up in the 'burbs in the era of Mayor Daley I and hope for a guilty verdict for Blago. But my personal favorite was the late mayor Harold Washington. In addition to being a gay, crack smoking schmuck (he died in his office partying with one of his boy toy staff) he also failed to pay income tax for five (or was it six?) consecutive years. His birthday. . .wait for it. . .was April 15th!

BTW, Washington's personal eccentricities were well known among Chicago media, but there was a collective fear of outing him. Half a million people showed up at his public viewing, that's a pretty big number of people, and p*****g them off would not be a good career move.

You may recall the incident at the Art Institute where a student's painting that showed Washington in bra and garter belt was confiscated by a gang of aldermen (at least one of whom was armed) led by Bobby Rush. Ultimately the artist prevailed in a lawsuit against the city. That toddlin' town!

Man, I understand pandering to your base in primaries (tomorrow in Michigan), but the Republicans running for governor are basically trying to one-up each other on who is the most pro-gun and pro-life, as if the most pressing issue facing Michigan is whether we can pass anti-abortion laws that will be shot down by federal appeals courts over the next four years.

I'd like to hear, you know, some sort of business plans, since I'm leaning about 80% toward voting Republican this time around after 8 years of Granholm. Maybe next week.

Hmm, that's interesting. This article made it sound like Snyder was trying to appeal to moderates more.

IIRC, the "values voter" (a.k.a. "how the hell did Dubya get re-elected"?) meme got started because of Michigan and Wisconsin, so it may not be a bad strategy. Also, the GOP can't run their usual "socialism sucks" game plan in a place with 20% unemployment.

I understand prolonged unemployment is weighing on you, but its not normal to be this angry all the time. Seek help, please.

Regarding ethics, looks like Dems are cleaning up their own house, which is nice to see. Unlike the GOP, where US attorney and other indictments had to clear out DeLay, Foley, Cunningham, Ney, that guy who choked his mistress in PA, etc etc etc.

Wonderful to see resident lefties Rover and Major *still* living in the past....or in Kepler's case, living in an imaginary utopian society where all conservatives are incarcerated for life or turned into edible recyclables, a la Soylent Green.

Watching conservatives now reminds me of them when Sarah Palin got chosen as the VP nominee. Wasn't that supposed to rocket that ticket to the Presidency?

I'm nowhere close to being a Palin fan, but I do honestly believe she kept it closer for McCain than anyone else would have.

Notable exception might be Lieberman I guess, but McCain was never going to be allowed to pick him.

Incumbent Democrat Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick loses her primary in Michigan's 13th last night.

Also on the ballots last night was Proposition C in Missouri. A yes vote on that proposition was to reject the individual mandate in Obamacare.

71% voted yes.

Now, caveats include the fact that this was a primary election, so turnout wasn't high. Second, the ballot language was a little tricky in my opinion, so maybe that confused people. Finally, the vote probably carries little to no legal weight. Still though, ouch for Obamacare.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

In Michigan, apparently the right wing guys I was complaining about managed to split their votes to a point where a middle of the road guys in Rick Snyder won the republican primary. Whoops. He'll face a lefty in Virg Bernero. Probably a better chance for the Republicans this way, since DeVos four years ago should have taught them that running Pete Hoekstra, who finished 2nd, another western Michigan dutch conservative, would have gotten them killed in the east again.

In sordid Detroit area news, 7 term congresswoman Carolyn Kilpatrick, mother of the imprisoned former Detroit mayor, was knocked off in her primary contest.

Still, the legisltive centerpiece of the Obama administration was rejected in numbers rarely seen in American politics. And an estimated 40K of those rejections were cast by Democrats. Additionally, in the senate primaries the Republican (Blunt) outpolled Democrat Carnahan by a few hundred votes in St. Louis county, the most democratic county in the state. And that turnout thing can go two ways: well, it's an off year and not very many peoople who vote, on the other hand those who do are the base, the activists, the most dedicated, etc.

I would guess no bubbly in the WH last night over this debacle.

Sad news tonight.

Basil Merceaux (.com!) will not be the Republican nominee for Tennessee gov. He's currently pulling in 0.5% of the vote.

Time for the Rand Paul Scandal of the week

The strangest episode of Paul's time at Baylor occurred one afternoon in 1983 (although memories about all of these events are understandably a bit hazy, so the date might be slightly off), when he and a NoZe brother paid a visit to a female student who was one of Paul's teammates on the Baylor swim team. According to this woman, who requested anonymity because of her current job as a clinical psychologist, "He and Randy came to my house, they knocked on my door, and then they blindfolded me, tied me up, and put me in their car. They took me to their apartment and tried to force me to take bong hits. They'd been smoking pot." After the woman refused to smoke with them, Paul and his friend put her back in their car and drove to the countryside outside of Waco, where they stopped near a creek. "They told me their god was 'Aqua Buddha' and that I needed to bow down and worship him," the woman recalls. "They blindfolded me and made me bow down to 'Aqua Buddha' in the creek. I had to say, 'I worship you Aqua Buddha, I worship you.' At Baylor, there were people actively going around trying to save you and we had to go to chapel, so worshiping idols was a big no-no."

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

as said by others.... we now know more about Rand Paul's college years than Barack Obama. ALL HAIL AQUABUDDHA!

So...that makes it okay then if the allegation is true?

In other news, ya gotta love GOP family values! This one from Dan Quayle's son, running in AZ...

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/08/ben-quayle-denies-writing-for.html?wprss=44

You know, maybe its just me, but I don't ever recall hearing in church that writing for dirty websites was okay with The Lord. Nice of of him to deny it first too, only to admit it later. Real stand up guy there.

Harry Reid makes a compelling argument for votes.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

Harry Reid makes a compelling argument for votes.

Because, as we all know, all Hispanics are exactly the same, and those who would potentially vote for Republicans, well, they aren't real Hispanics, now, are they?

Great rebuttal to Harry's idiocy: http://cubachi.com/2010/08/11/harry-reid-cant-believe-im-a-hispanic-republican/

Question for Rover and/or Kepler, since they'd probably know best - what's your Hispanic equivalent for "Uncle Tom?"
