Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

Watching the NJ Supreme Court hearing today on whether they can recall Senator Menendez. Court doesn't appear to be too receptive to their argument.

Don't see how this could fly. If you can't impose term limits on federal officials I fail to see how you can launch a recall against them. The Supreme Court ruling was clear; no additional criteria above those already set in the Constitution.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

Vaughn Ward is candidate for an Idaho House seat. He's backed by Sarah Palin, and makes a pretty nice stump speech. Unfortunately that stump speech sounds pretty darn familiar to a certain Barack Obama speech from 2004...

the law in New Jersey hasn't mattered before... why start now?

As expected, a non-apology apology from Blumenthal;

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...urate-claims-vietnam-service/?test=latestnews

Not: "I'm sorry I lied," but "I'm sorry if I offended anyone." Heck, he should say that after he breaks wind in a crowded bus. He's a liar and he's trying to spin his way out of this. Pretty ugly stuff.

You know what Blumenthal gets... inoculation. Expect any WWF jabs to be made in October for this very same reason.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

Having said all that, it looks like his chances of surviving this are improving. Why that is I couldn't tell you, but I'll theorize that I think voters, especially those under the age of 50, are just sick of hearing the "what were you doing during Vietnam" questions. Doesn't minimize what he did, but at some point the public starts tuning it out. I personally am a bit surprised he's still around, although he may have also benefited somewhat by making how the story broke the issue.

You mean you're tired of it. What's the problem here exactly? Telling the truth isn't a hard thing to do... unless you are an Attorney General from the state of Connecticut or a senator from Massachusetts.

You seem to be adverse to the truth recently between this and the job offer to Sestak.

He's now looking for a real job. Lost 48-39

Saw that. That Idaho seat is pretty interesting, the Democrat, Walt Minnick, is the only Democrat to be endorsed by the national Tea Party so far.

Actually, it was the Tea Party Express, which is one of several nationally oriented tea party groups, and it was partially because Ward is a dumbass. It's a bit controversial - not because of his beliefs, per se, but more that he represents a vote for Nancy Pelosi to become Speaker again. There's debate within the movement as to whether endorsing Democrats for Congress, even conservative Democrats like Minnick, is the right thing to do in this election given those circumstances. There's little debate over whether Democrats CAN be endorsed, especially in non-Congressional races, but the debates are over whether they SHOULD be endorsed, especially IN Congressional races.

ID-1 is certainly going to be interesting to watch.

I mean the country's tired of it. Remember when McCain tried to use the excesses of the 60's against Obama....who was born in the 60's? The guy's campaign was a laughingstock. I don't know, nor do I care, what decisions people made back then to skip the war at this point. If the guy who actually went and saved lives (Kerry) is an object of scorn, but the guy who got placed in the Guard and never showed up (Bush II) or his pal with 5 deferments (Cheney) are the virtues of combat experience, really what's the point? It was over 40 years ago, and you weren't even born yet. Get over it. :D

Yeah, there's no one National Tea Party I suppose. I went to Labrador's site (the guy who won the GOP nomination last night), and I didn't really see anything objectionable. I wonder why they chose to endorse someone so early, particularly an unopposed Democrat. For me, if Labrador and Minnick are both equally conservative, endorse the one who won't be voting Pelosi for speaker.

I don't expect the GOP to take the House in November, but if a large number of Dem seats are lost, then maybe the caucus will vent its anger upon her and put Hoyer in charge.

My impression is that Pelosi is very effective and popular among members. Reid, OTOH...

If there is going to be a challenge for the Speaker's chair, I would expect it to be someone outside the current leadership. Someone like Tim Murphy, who is from an important state electorally (PA) and he's "new" but not "too new." But I don't see it happening.

Someone needs to replace Harry Reid, but the caucus seems fine with a milquetoast leader. I'm not sure anyone has A) the interest and B) the power base to challenge him.

I forget where I read it, but someone wrote last week that a smaller majority might make Pelosi even more powerful. In essence, the wishy-washy Dems will be the ones voted out, and Nancy will be left with a group of 220-230 hardcore lefties.

That doesn't make any sense. If she wanted to rule from the left with the 218 hardest core liberals, she could already do that now. I think that's wishful thinking on someone's part.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

I'm not sure what the problem with Pelosi would be as she's passed just about every major legislative priority through the House. As others have said, the people most distant from her are also the ones most likely losing this November. Come 2012 when the Obama voters come out to the polls once again she's most likely have a more liberal caucus.

Reid however needs to go. While I hate giving up Senate seats, sometimes its for the greater good (Bob Torricelli is the last time I really felt like this). Simply put, he's hapless, much like Daschle was. I'd much rather see a guy like Schumer who came up in rough and tumble NYC politics taking the reigns. Problem is poor opposition in Nevada might save his @zz, and I seriously doubt the Dems will dump him on their own.
