Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

I know that at least one season there were 2 or 3 that were on the boat. None of them of course made it. So in 5 seasons they have gone through an average of over 1 greenhorn per season. I also find it funny that they were all excited to get Russel from the Time Bandit after he was let go...yet he is also on different boat now. Guess he wasnt as good as they tried to make him out to be.

To me Keith/brother don't come across as credible hardasses... their personalities and vocal tones of that of softies... and then they get ****ed when they get people who think they can slack. I think that's probably what it is... the new guys get this attitude in regards to their management because of they way he is.

I don't know... he manages to stay in business. Either they are setting unrealistic standards or they aren't setting up these kids with the right attitude.

edit: i think Keith protarys beta-male tendencies... but its his boat... and that causes problem.

The stay in business line got me thinking. Greenhorns are cheaper than a full deckhand. Maybe its just easier to set the bar way way to high and keep brining in greenhorns who you dont have to pay as much rather than hiring one on as a deckhand. Of course if you find one that does meet the bar then you hire him as a deckhand. I really doubt that is the case...but it was a thought that jumped into my head.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

It's strange that Sig has the reputation as a hardass, but the greenhorns on the Northwestern have done well. Jake is on his way to becoming a full share guy (if he isn't already).

Sig is tough, but he is fair, and it seems to me he sets you up to succeed. He, Edgar and the crew show you the way they want things done and then get out of your way. I don't get that impression from Keith...and there's a lot of crap that they pull that wouldn't fly on the Northwestern - like that stupid Viking helmet.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

I wonder how serious Edgar is there about wanting to get out of the game soon...and how much is just editing and taken out of context. I'd hate to see him leave. He is a natural and a great deckhand.

he also isn't getting younger... and I wonder how much this show has emboldened him and given him more confidence. I think what we're seeing portrayed is a more confident Edgar... if that's what it is then he's going to butt heads with Sig and he might be looking at other things to do.

Yeah that is what I was thinking too. He is part owner of the boat so he doesnt need to stay active if he doesn't want to, and he never struck me as a captain (or the show edited as such) he always seemed like he was the assistant coach the players went to to whine about the head coach.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

I don't know about that. Keith strikes me as someone you would not want to mess with. Jonathan strikes me as big bag full of hot air. Riding a Harley and wearing a leather jacket doesn't make you tough. My dentist does it every weekend.

Jonathan is a legit tough guy. Apparently he's delivered some pretty legendary ***-whippings. A fight with him would not have ended well for Keith.

Maybe in his youth, he swings a few times and misses he'd be an hour trying to catch his breath. 2 or 3 packs a day keeps him from being much of a tough guy

lets not act like these guys haven't been on the end of a fair number of bar fights... still think Jonathan is a twit for the push but its not like he's some 17 year old preening tough boy.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

Well... I see where the drama at the opening is coming. Even without the opening preview you just know that this is a bad idea.

But I guess we have to wait until next week to see it unfold...

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

just watched last night's episode... I'm getting sick of this forced drama crap. I don't want to go blow for blow and I'm not sure what Keith was going to get out of that thing at the end. I don't know... it seems to be getting all drama crazy.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

I was watching with my dad last night and we were both thinking the same thing when the two crews were getting their own Jake back...are you ****ing insane?!?

Who in their right mind does that and why in the world would someone go along with it?

I just hear them talk about how dangerous it is once you hit that water, then their putting their own people in there. I don't know, maybe the show made it seem more dramatic than it actually was, but still...

that was dumb and gimmicky too... i hope the network isn't pushing them to do that type of crap. I figured the swap would be for the full king crab season... that way the boys get the whatever out of their system.
