Re: Dead!!!!

The twitterverse reports Richie Havens dead of a heart attack @ 72

Aw, man, this is a heartbreaker for me. I was first aware of him in the film "Woodstock", and he apparently wowed me as much as he did his live audience. I never expected to see him perform, but about 10 years ago he was one of the performers at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, an event we periodically attend. It was so cool to be sitting about 20 feet from him for a side stage performance. And then, miraculously, I got to see him in the small neighboring town's restored opera house maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Boy, he could still light the place up. I'm gonna miss him.

IIRC no one wanted to be first to perform back in August 1969 and he just took his guitar and went out there and started. RIP

And then they asked him to extend his performance up to three hours because the other performers were stuck in traffic.

RIP :( A big loss...

Re: Dead!!!!

The LA Times reports that Allan Arbus has died at age 95. He played the wise psychiatrist Dr. Sidney Freedman on the TV version of MASH. :(

.
LOS ANGELES—Picketing outside a cemetery in Los Angeles today, members of the Westboro Baptist Church confirmed to reporters that they actually aren’t entirely sure why they chose to protest the funeral of television actor Allan Arbus. “Wait, who is this guy again? Some sort of TV star?” said church member Jill Holland while trying to find any real reason whatsoever why the death of Arbus, a fashion-photographer-turned-actor best known for his role as Dr. Freedman in the popular sitcom M*A*S*H, was God’s way of punishing America for its moral decay and cultural decadence. “As far as I know, he wasn’t gay or bisexual, or the victim of a high-profile mass shooting or terror attack, or an American soldier killed in combat or anything like that. In fact, I’m pretty sure we’re just holding ‘God Hates Fags’ signs outside the funeral of some 95-year-old man who used to be on television for a while.” At press time, church members had overheard that Arbus was of Jewish descent and said, “Okay, well, that’s something.”

Re: Dead!!!!

In a word, that's priceless. You just keep hoping for an 18-wheeler to hop the curb. In addition to everything else, they're also gutless. How long would it have taken some burly Irish cops or firefighters to beat the snot out of 'em if they'd showed up at Martin Richard's funeral?

Speaking as a guy who had occasional contacts with them, ignoring them is still your best bet.
