He's a good man. Everybody blamed him for the failed rescue mission in Iran but I'm more inclined to blame the idiot that ordered the air intake filters to be taken out of the helicopters that ran smack-dab into a sandstorm.

Because of Reagan's slandering of him, people forget that Carter was and is a conservative Democrat. Nominating Carter was the beginning of the Democrats' retreat from the liberal policies which built the American middle class. Also, the policy where the US arrogates the right to intervene militarily in the Middle East strictly to protect its oil supply is called the Carter Doctrine.

Jimmy is a great human being, but his move of the Democratic party to the right, made permanent by Clinton, was the beginning of the attack on democracy in America.

Could you imagine where the US would be positioned if we had started the green energy push in the 70s and 80s? Imagine if the world's most powerful country had an effectively unlimited supply of exportable energy with no need to import a drop. We could have already been most of the way to carbon free-ish energy by now, 40 years later. We could be exporting those technology licenses for untold sums of money.

which isn't even touching on the change in global warming.

In the late 70s and early 80s people were getting tax breaks for installing photovoltaics.
Not very many years later those tax breaks were gone and people got tax breaks for buying large SUVs.
