Dead Thread - 2020

I read this date: Chick Corea. He used to play at the tiny The Haunt in Ithaca in between huge gigs in Montreal and NYC every year I was in college, so I missed 4 chances to see him in a 200-person venue. I suck. RIP.

Light as a Feather is where his music started for me. Buddy went to Berklee and came back with that LP, still listen to it along with several other Electric band CDs. Great stuff.

Good job. :-)

I was wondering yesterday if he was famous since I had not heard of him. I learned about his death in a rather strange manner which requires some background. About ten years ago, I googled the name of my niece Emily Baer and even at time all of the links which came up were to a piano protegy named Emily Bear. I have been following her career as a pianist, composer, singer, etc. since then. She is now 19. For the last month she has been developing with Abigail Barlow a musical adaption of the Netflix series Bridgerton which I otherwise would not have heard of. They have been posting lengthy Instagram videos of their sessions every day. Due to their length and repetitiousness, I have not listened to most of these, but it was pointed out on a message board that Emily learned about Corea's death a little after the 58:00 mark of this Instagram video https://www.instagram.com/tv/CLKzDqWo3EW/?igshid=1d10ir67p8swv. An about 4-minute tribute follows.

One of numerous articles about Barlow and Bear's work https://people.com/tv/bridgerton-the-musical-meet-the-creators-tiktok/.

Former San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Vincent Jackson was found dead. Jackson, who played wide receiver in the NFL from 2005-16, was found deceased at the Homewood Suites in Brandon earlier today, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriffs office.
He had checked into the hotel on January 11 and had been there since that date. Last week, members of Jackson’s family apparently called authorities to report him missing.

So with Cloris Leachman's recent death, does he get the extra time on Earth, or does Betty White? ;-)

You know the answer.

Aww man, who's going to take suitcases full of Viagra prescribed to other people to known sex-trafficking destinations now?

Awww man. If only I could muster up something sympathetic and consoling............

Nope, not gawn happen.

If I were so inclined to search and figure out how to post a GIF here, I'd use that Jerry Seinfeld "That's a shame" one. But my time is worth more than that.

ETA: A Facebook friend just posted this Mark Twain quote: "I've never wished a man dead, but I've read some obituaries with great pleasure"

I think the last time I heard his show, I was on a hiking vacation in 2014. I was in rural southern Utah and tuned in on a lark just to hear whatever he was blathering about that day. His on-air personality didn't change much in 30 years, he was always happy to abuse his right to free speech to make unnecessarily puerile and hateful comments. Probably my favorite political cartoon that best sums up his character:
