Motorsports Pioneer Bill Simpson

The dude is basically the reason that Auto Racing has evolved to a point where we are going years between major injuries/death during events instead of days/weeks.

The guy was one of the people I looked up to and wanted to be like as I became an adult. Just a smart, down to earth dude who was the epitome of the Wild West days in auto racing in the 60s/70s/80s. :(

Re: Dead Thread 2019-???: Yep, They're Still Dead.

People tried to blame him for Earnhardt's death because one of the belts was broken. He was cleared because, well, he couldn't make Earnhardt wear the harness correctly. He'd actually told him numerous times that he didn't like how loose he wore it.

Edit: I see now they go into the above a bit in the article. Didn't know he sued NASCAR for it. Good for him.

End of the day, Dale caused that crash to allow his teammate to win. Yah it’s racing and all, but that’s what it was.

Not his teammates, but his drivers. Senior drove for Richard Childress.

He was definitely blocking for them to finish 1-2. But it wasn't just that that caused it. A lot of things went perfectly wrong, and were exacerbated by his habits and preferences.

Back to the point, which we agree on, it wasn't Simpson's fault.

Edit: I read your post again. I'm talking about what caused his death, you're talking about what caused the crash. I agree, Earnhardt and Marlin caused the crash.
