:( This is awful. He is the man who reminds me that a leader can have integrity.

Yup, The guy is 95, and they're going to perform surgery to relieve pressure on the brain. There's NOTHING good going on in that sentence.

Jimmy Carter is the new Zsa Zsa, though. I give him another 5 years.

Jingoistic, cranky old loudmouth who got away with stuff like this for decades, is surprised he's no longer employable. Story at 11.
Yeah, he’s said a lot worse stuff about French Canadians and Europeans before and had gotten away with it.

He just got too old and lived too long.

And that would be fair. He may have been a rotten pres, but he's a wonderful human being.

He wasn't a rotten pres. He had very bad timing and he ran head first into the GOP Sleaze Machine.

And Ronnie Raygun striking a deal with Iran to release the hostages after the election.

He was eaten by his own

Teddy killed him, and even then had the election been one week later Carter would still have won.

Reagan was many things but primarily he was the luckiest moron on the face of the Earth.

You are right, but JC campaigned for that position and knew or should have known what he was getting into. Traits we admire in most people can get in the way of being effective as POTUS. He was committed to what was upright, but he was so stubborn about it he ignored his job of listening and leading. He thought is principles were enough, and I think that was a function of his extreme devoutness. He was smart, famously thorough, read all the memos, but he was out of his water when it came to his role of both butting heads with and working with the legislative branch. He would never have been at all like LBJ, and LBJ was definitely not an admirable character, but JC could have used a little of his ability to work the trenches over on the hill.

He wasn't really a starry-eyed idealist, though. The foreign policy doctrine that essentially extended the Monroe Doctrine to the Middle East to protect oil supplies is called the Carter Doctrine for a reason. And remember he was the conservative candidate -- he was there to stop Ted Kennedy and liberals from creating a national health care system 30 years before Obama finally accomplished a watered-down version of it.

Obama was certainly a better president: he will stand out in history as a guy who successfully bore the brunt of the racist and fascist right wing cult that is destroying the nation. But my points are that Carter was no angel and he was also a pretty good president. The degradation in both character and ability from Carter to Reagan is similar to that from Obama to Dump.
