DEAD!! All right, who died now?

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

Wade Wilson: I swear to God, I will find you in the next life and I'm gonna boom-box "Careless Whisper" outside your window. Wham!

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

This one has seriously hit me harder than Prince. I was in the car tonight and one of the stations was playing his music and Kissing a Fool came on and I started to cry. It was my absolute favorite song of his. Saw on Twitter that MTV Classic changed their programming to show his videos and I've been watching it since I got home.

Dammit. I'm tearing up again. :(

Someone on Twitter brought this up, and I forgot how awesome it was:

One More Try was always my fave song of his, but the above performance......JEffC.

You know you're a great artist when people reference your tribute covers. For George see above. For prince see while my guitar gently weeps

on the boston morning sports radio a couple weeks ago they were talking about rock and roll hof candidates and when they started with pearl jam they were saying "not even really good stuff" and "yah, but they do play a lot of covers that i like" "yes. they are a good cover band but that's it" :p

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

Really? I mean, they have a few Who songs and Rocking In The Free World that show up in their concerts (or at least, the last time I paid attention). Besides that and Last Kiss, what covers are they even known for?

There are bands, groups and individuals in the Rock 'n' Roll HoF who don't have a single song I like. There are bands not in the HoF that I absolutely love. To deny that Pearl Jam has put out a lot of very successful music that has been influential to others is to deny reality.

They have done a LOT of covers in concert over the years. That being said, they are not a cover band.

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

They will do a few covers per show, but their concerts are very long and they typically play around 3 dozen songs. That's monstrous compared with most acts that regularly tour. Look at the songs from their double album greatest hits collection made already 13 years ago. Unless you've lived under a rock or most likely lame (think FF or mookie) you have heard at least once most of the following (off the top my head I may have missed som): Once, Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy, Animal, Go, Dissident, Rearviewmirror, Spin the Black Circle, Corduroy, Not for You, Hail Hail, Do the Evolution, Save You, Black, Daughter, Elderly Woman..., Better Man, Nothingman, Given to Fly, Wishlist, Yellow Leadbetter and Light Years. That's even missing a few others from their earlier albums and few good tracks from their last few records that got radio play. Pretty impressive.

I fully understand not everyone is going to like them which if fine. Plenty of people never got into the Beatles, The Who or Zeppelin, but it's foolish to deny their real presence in musical history.

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

PJ is not my favorite Seattle band, but they belong.

Anyway, this is the Dead thread. Take it to the music thread.
