Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

You are right. Nothing could go wrong. My bad. ;)

Exactly, the NSA and CIA have proved that us giving them our complete trust could never lead to any sort of abuses or violations of said trust. Just ask Edward Snowden about them reviewing the always popular and classy dick pics.

Well, after all, Maize doesn't trust me since I own guns, so that makes it fine to put me in a registry and track me.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

It was two Muslims shooting up a Christmas party, simple as that.

I still feel like it was not the type of event ISIS would be targeting. Yes, it was at a party. At a mental health center. It just seems too small to cause any other impact other than "Guns! We need gun control!! Too many crazies get guns!!" And so on. That's our internal issue. What the hell does ISIS care about that? Other than laughing hysterically at the US for killing ourselves - why the heck do they even need to come here to cause attacks? We're doing a fine job of that on our own. They seem to want to brag and take credit for things. I guess I'm not explaining myself too clearly.

I get what you mean. The media, though......spin spin spin that narrative

I think that might be a bit of confusion on your part, Scarlet. Malik, the woman, she's reported as being a supporter of ISIS, but that doesn't mean the attack was sanctioned or even known about by any actual ISIS operators.

The day of on Twitter priceless was going on and on about white men terrorist with guns (early reports had Caucasian shooters).

With the new news not so much.

(Not that it matters. After all if this wasn't a gun free zone and those mental unstable Christmas partiers had glocks this wouldn't have happened!!)

I agree that it doesn't feel like this is what they were preparing for. With all that ammo and the pipe bombs you aren't getting ready to shoot up the company Christmas party. Seems like for whatever reason they decided to do this instead.

I've heard this, that there was no evidence the movers and shakers in Syria even acknowledged her pledge of support. Weird as it is, they might best be classified as wannabe terrorists. But they clearly targeted a Christmas party of celebrating "infidels."
By "wannabe" I mean that maybe they were looking for some guidance that they didn't get, and didn't have the capacity to plan and carry out something more armageddonish.

Or in addition to. They may have headed home to re-arm and head out to the planned main event.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

The only way they'll be defeated is through development and support of an alternative worldview - education, food, money, jobs, stability, peace, love... The U.S. has a much bigger role to play than bombing them.

I don't think that strategy will defeat ISIS per se, I do agree with you that it will be essential to stop the spread of ISIS: we need to recruit their prospective new members to a different version of Islam, one that allows for peaceful co-existence with other religions. It seems to me that we need both to find a way to keep them from recruiting anyone else new to join, and also to defeat them militarily as well, because I don't think they can be dissuaded to give up violence in any other way.

Ultimately, only Muslims can reform Islam: the moderates have to insist that killing non-believers is no longer an acceptable alternative to converting them.

Tough ****. At least those wackos had a choice in the matter, unlike the innocent people we'll be fine with monitoring after this latest gun massacre.

Are you shocked that priceless and the mainstream media would want the same things

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

Does anyone else think that a huge contributor to the rise of these events is the way we cover them in the media, and the attention we give them?

I've often thought about this. I think it is. Since Columbine it has changed.
