Wow. I knew they had some nuts in Ann Arbor, but I didn't realize it was such a hotbed for fascist policies.

I think you start at the state level with laws like 'stand and defend'. Because laws like this defend killing someone else through excessive force when one feels overly threatened...it turns any confrontation into a gun duel. I must escalate the situation before you do and the law infers there's justification in doing so.

Bonus point to the Missouri legislator who introduced a bill modeling purchasing a gun to getting an abortion.

I'm glad someone finally made the connection. That was my point. It astounds me how much support there is for one--which let's be honest, we all know is already happening to some extent--and how little support there is for a threat that has proven time and again to be far more dangerous, simply because of the skin color of the majority in each group.

The problem is the lobby industry absolutely has more influence than the 70% of us in the middle. I don't think 70% would favor banning guns, but I do believe a majority would entertain some kinds of reform.

Considering more americans have died in the past 5 weeks from guns than have from terrorism since 2001, that doesn't at all sound like something that should be kept track of. Or that wanting to monitor muslims is just another us vs them mentality by people who grew up with it during the cold war and are incapable of framing their lives any other way.

Keeping tabs on deadly weapons should have been important from the very start. We already ID and monitor people for driving cars, gun ownership should be no less scrutinized.

So you're saying we should monitor gun owners in a database AND Muslims? Or are you saying that you support a database for gun owners but not for Muslims? Because both of those are pretty disgusting.

Can someone else back me up in that I'm reading this correctly?

I'm not justifying it...or even saying gun owners should be ID'd.

But there is a major difference between racial/religious profiling...and behavioral profiling. As a concept, behavioral profiling is how many bad guys are caught.

How is gun ownership any different, behaviorally, from being a Muslim?

One kneels five times a day praying to a rock, the other walks into a Cabelas and buys a firearm. One worships Allah and the other worships Charlton Heston.

Both are behavioral. Both are protected by the constitution.

So is stamp collecting. But stamp collecting is not a trigger at the FBI...weapon acquisitions are. One is not protected from being monitored by the constitution if said individual has the profile of a terrorist.

It's interesting to note that 100% of mass shootings are committed with a firearm.

I wonder if the it's just mental health people can actually point to any statistics on if these people seek any care or by what criteria they will use to force it on them.

Well, as mentioned earlier in the thread, I think in order to purchase a gun, one must pass a mental health check as one of the requirements.
