Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

Ok. You guys have me convinced. Walking onto a U.S. military base with the intent to kill poses the same risk to a shooter as does walking into an elementary school in Sandy Hook, CT, and I don't know why any mass shooter would consider one a more formidable obstacle than the other.

You are correct, of course. If you walk into the precinct locker room and open fire, yes its most likely not every cop has his gun out of his locker. However, the likelihood that some of them do is a lot greater than walking into a Christmas party full of social workers and being confronted with an armed civilian.

I'm just saying, the man was on a rampage for 10 minutes before the base's civilian police were able to shoot him and then place him under arrest. If soldiers were still permitted to carry weapons on base, how long would he have lasted? Less than ten minutes, of that I'm certain. Who else could've been killed or spared due to actions taken by other soldiers? We can't know, only make assumptions based upon our biases. We know those soldiers have all been trained to handle the weapons, but we don't know how proficient they are with them or how good their aim would be on a domestic base, not anticipating to actually use those skills.

What Flaggy doesn't understand is fear of being shot is the last thing that enters their mind. They expect it, or even desire it, and if it doesn't happen, they often shoot themselves. Belief someone in the crowd may be armed won't deter them in the least.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

You know where else is a mostly gun-free zone? Every other country in the civilized ****ing world. I'd take their gun death numbers in a heartbeat.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

Yeah...I would like to see a link to that one.

and you were lecturing me last week about how simple it is do to a google search????

Yeah, CNN and the Washington Post are SO unreliable!

It was the "draw Mohammed" event in Garland TX in May of this year. The two men who planned to wreak havoc at the event were shot by police before they could get inside.

They wore body armor. They carried assault rifles. And one had declared loyalty to ISIS.

A day after police killed two gunmen who tried to ambush a Garland, Texas, event featuring controversial cartoons of the Muslim Prophet Mohammed, details began to emerge about the shooters.

The firepower of the suspected attackers — assault weapons and some type of body armor —

But, they want to inflict the maximum amount of damage before that happens...going somewhere where people aren't possibly armed allows for that.

Yeah but something something Japanese invasion something something the NWO will take over something something the NRA says so something something.

But, in flags proposed new world, everywhere would be armed. So that thought process is essentially nullified.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

Yeah...I would like to see a link to that one, because that just reeks of a FW: FW: FW: FW: YOULL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!1111!!! e-mail.

Anti-muslim speaker as victim, anti-Muslim supporter as the hero (at the last minute, nonetheless, the guy got within breathing distance of the door), and presumably a Muslim as the attacker, or at least a librul (because who else would attack an anti-muslim speaker). No, that doesn't sound like something completely made up in a right-winger's fantasy.

So I'm declaring shenanigans on that one until shown otherwise.

Oh c'mon "unofun", Fishy would never re-post your crazy uncle's righty chain emails on USCHO as fact. ;)

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0

Sad really. We had gun control discussions a couple of years ago on this very site...I was pretty much solo in coming out supporting tight gun control. Now look at how things have deteriorated (and in Mexico also).

At some point, I hope folks realize that guns are at least part of the problem.

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS.

Screw those other countries that are gun-free. It doesn't matter because THEY HAVE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ATTITUDES TOWARDS GUNS (criminal or not).

Now, I've said before, I own guns. I'm not going to be the guy who just posts a link to some righty website and says, "Gotcha! Gun violence has actually declined!" (as if the WaPO is righty). Point #4 "Less Lead" really made me laugh. I don't think this article vindicates anything. However, I do think that there is no question that gun crimes have become higher profile since Columbine.

So how many guns were sold after all the pundits and all the pols talked about more gun control? I'll bet guns and ammo fly off the shelves this weekend

Shootings are always the best advertisements for gun sales. It's why the gun lobby pays it's politicians so well to offer their thoughts and prayers, not actual action on the problem.
