D3 Tournament Rants, Raves, Whines and Predictions

Hour to an hour and a half. Easiest way is the grand isle- Cumberland head ferry crossing. Really it's only a 30-45 min drive with an additional 30 min ferry crossing. Once your in New York it's about a 10 minute drive through plattsburgh to get to the arena

if you take the ferry it is less than an hour from BTV to Plattsburgh. Your actual driven miles will be about 32 miles. When you get off the ferry you take Rt 314 to I87 south to exit 37. Take a left at the light onto Rt 3 for about 300 feet, a left onto Hammond Ln. At the end of Hammond Ln you take a left onto Rugar st and Stafford Arena is about 3/4 of a mile on the right.

. The ferry is a twelve minute ride!!

Many hockey people that I know, fly into Montreal to get to Plattsburgh. It's an easy commute, 1 hour straight down the freeway. Always plenty of Quebec plates on the Northway. A good chunk of the road from Burlington to the Ferry is windy and slow in comparison. Besides, Montreal is a bigger hub, so better chance of direct flights from places like Minneapolis and Chicago.
The only problem is since 911 crossing the border can sometimes delay you as much as an hour. Us 2 thought the islands is not bad an you are only on it for about 10 miles. The rest of the trip is I89 and I87 in ny.

Border Crossing is about timing. Admittedly, I often cross early in the morning or late at night, when it is no more than a 10 minute wait, and often less than 5. Busy times tend to be afternoon and early evenings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and in the summer in general.

Burlington to Platty or Montreal to Platty are about equal time wise. Montreal tends to have more direct flight connections to larger centers further away.

In general, if you are in Canada, fly to Montreal, if you are in the US, fly to Burlington.

I sometimes drive for an airport shuttle service here in Plattsburgh. It is much easier to travel US 2,I87 &I89 anytime than rts 15 and 20 and the Mercier bridge.

and a twenty minute wait if you just miss the boat.
Only if it is after eleven o'clock at night, otherwise they run three ferries and it is less than a ten minute wait. Still quicker than going to Swanton or through the Islands to Rouses pt and down!

Ah yes, but they got this great new highway, called Autoroute 30. No more Mercier bridge for me. :)

Question. How long does it take to get from Burlington to Plattsburgh, and what is the best way? Thanks.
When I went to Platty a few years ago for hockey from the Midwest flew into Albany. On the way back stopped at Lake Placid. Had some brewskis and went down the bobsled run. Krapped my pants the whole way down. Can still hear my wife screaming. If you have time do it.

I have done it, got my tee shirt and pin! It is worth the fee they charge for sure.

Re: D3 Tournament Rants, Raves, Whines and Predictions

I just did a quick search got you SNC fans coming to the Burgh....

It's a little drive, but the best rate I found was

Chicago to Albany

Edit: THEY ARE NON STOP FLIGHTS AS WELL

Albany is a 2-1/2 hour drive to Plattsburgh...ALL HIGHWAY...

Arrive Friday 3/8 or Sat 3/9
Return Monday 3/11

United Airlines

$221

Compared to $600 into Burlinton VT and even more into Montreal

Double Edit: Rental cars look like $65-$75 though Budget/Avis/Enterprise for Albany for Friday-Monday

Also, Fridays flights are slim but Saturdays flight gets into Albany by 11:00am. You can easily drive to Plattsburgh by the 4:00pm start....

This thread has become incredibly lame!!!!

Let's try some predictions:

Platts over St. Norbert
Bowdoin over Elmira
Norwich over Middlebury
UWRF over GA (my upset selection)

Gustavus was a little shaky in the MIAC playoffs...I imagine they fix it by next weekend or I'd say you are right. River Falls would bring a big crowd up to Superior.

I'm gonna go St Norbert over Platts (plattsburgh gets caught thinking it will be easy)

Bowdoin over Elmira
Norwich over Middlebury
River Falls over Gustavus

SNC over Norwich
River Falls over Bowdoin

All NCHA title game---River Falls gets Redemption winning 5-3.

I can dream right???

Re: D3 Tournament Rants, Raves, Whines and Predictions

Plattsburgh over St. Norbert
Bowdoin over Elmira (have to improve on the all-time 0-2-1 record against the Soaring Eagles!)
Middlebury over Norwich
Gustavus over River Falls

Bowdoin over Gustavus (Holtz and Tess-Wanat go "Wild" at home)
Middlebury over Plattsburgh (3rd time's the charm)

all NESCAC final with Bowdoin winning 1st women's hockey title in program history (as they sing coming out of the tunnel before stepping onto the ice "Dream in Black&White")!!!
GO U BEARS!!!

Plattsburgh Airport maybe ?.

Other choice would be Montreal for a larger center nearby, but then everyone needs to clear Customs twice so don't see that as an option.

And everyone on the team has to have a passport or enhanced driver's license which may not be the case.
