D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Well although it's a good bit of writing it certainly has a NESCACian edge to it. ;)

I think the most telling sentence is the final one and it sums up the conference in general. The NESCAC Champ will be decided in mid January.... :(

He said regular season NESCAC Champ, which has been the case over the last 5 years. The NESCAC championships have only taken place at Amherst or Middlebury over last 5 years (maybe longer), and none of the other teams have brought in as many solid freshmen as these two teams this year, so I would agree with Obserbear that the weekend of 1/13 and 1/14 will most likely determine where the NESCACs will take place, unless they split. I almost hope they do, as they will then have to play as well as possible, for the team that has an off game and either ties or loses will lose home ice advantage, which is how it should be.

I'm not catching what your pitching here Spike. Ol' Phil leads with the term Garbage Hockey so he's going to get a push back. EC fans aren't upset, they love the physical aspect of the game...but if you disrespect the Laura Hurd scarf they will get in your face.

As for Jamie "Bam Bam" Huntley well thats just so...2009. Let it go Spike...Let it go.

I see now that Phil may have hurled the first arrow; however, as to your advice about getting over Huntley, its nothing to get over. But, if we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it... just having some fun. happy holidays to everyone.

Spike, spike, spike...et tu, Brute?...just cause you got no skin in the game doesn't mean you can bail...are the Blackhawks playing or something? Look, see for yourself...you force me to give them the garbage with the gold to show that 5-4-3-2-1's eyesight is shot and that twofer's idea of blue line is misplaced and that even I mis-placed the thud (which was really a Panther dealing on the Eagle with the puck) at the same time as the foreground up-ending was happening, and for this I have to give up the goals...sigh...so, enjoy --- this is as "real" as it gets

Way to come clean Phil. God love ya!

If it wasn't Mark Twains Birthday today I wouldn't even bother but...:)

Just spit'ballin here but I'm curious to know. The Wild just defeated the Oilers in a shootout in the fourth round. Ryan Smith of the Oilers received a penalty late in the OT and had a buck 26 left when time expired in said OT yet he was eligible to shoot in the shootout. In the Panther/Cardinal Classic Elmira had two players with penalty time remaining after the OT and they had to stay in the penalty box in the shootout denying them the chance to be designated as a shooter. Is there an NCAA rule with respect to this or were the zebra's just making things up as they went along. Anybody?

I'm not sure that shootouts themselves are even governed by the NCAA, given that they don't recognize their results. For the case of regular season shootouts, I would think that the individual conferences would make the rules, and for tournaments, the tournament organizers would provide the rules. I've heard the players in the box not eligible to compete piece before, but conceivably that could apply to just that conference instead of being universal.

But "zebra's just making things up" is always a good answer. I've seen teams defend their 2nd-period goals in OT, and I've also seen them defend their 1st/3rd-period goals within the same season. Maybe not everyone gets the memos?

Ok Thanks..I might be a bit niave here but suppose it was in a final four game or the tournament leading up to it. Do they ever go to a shootout or is it strictly decided by Sudden Victory through consecutive OT's?

The latter.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

The latter.

Prime example was the UMD-Cornell final a few years ago. Went to sixth period (full length 20 minutes IIRC), before it was decided.

Can't really comment on this because I'm not sure I understand what you said. And I am NOT pulling a Brute to your Caesar. I would never take sides with a purple bird versus a Panther. So let me start over...Elmira is always physical and chippy, and is always among the leaders in PIM. Anyone who complains when they get some of their own medicine should be called out, IMHO. With that said, I would hope that you weren't dissing Laura Hurd's memory with the scarf reference.

As long as we are all fessing up here...I have to admit I was wrong when I said the EC player got speared three times when covering the puck. It was actually just one vicious slash and one spear. I stand corrected. ;)

Anyway it was a nice assist on the ref's delay of game call by the leather lunged Middlebury fan. Hats off to you! :)

BTW...if your goalie is looking for her jock it's in section 3, row 12 around seat 21 or 22. Those were some sick dangles!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Per RIT Men's radio broadcast:

RIT 7 - Chatham 0 Middle 2nd

RIT outshooting Chatham something like 35-2

It doesn't sound fair to me.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Another "class" act......or did they play the same peewee team as nu:D

I'd rather never see scores like that, but in fairness, RIT only put 12 shots on net in the 3rd after having nearly 50 in the first 2 periods. At some point there has to be SOME accountability on the part of the team that is getting beat so badly to put a better team on the ice.

That is especially true (and I think fair in this case) since just a couple years ago Chatham, while not nearly threatening to be beat RIT, at least made them work for their wins. They then for whatever reason chose to blow up their program and start back over at the level they were at 5 years ago, and this is what is happening again. If anything, it's sad.
