Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Nice effort by Greer to break in and take the long shot and score...Mackrell had it squared up, it just leaked in 5 hole...
1-0 after 2 at Kenyon
sog 12-10 Plattsburgh
Good game so far...changed plans and made the trip, glad I did.

Obserbear you wouldnt be befind the cards bench in a black coat and light pants would you?

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

First off 24 it was not my intention to slight either the NCHA or St. Norbert. I think that it is difficult to compare any two teams when they don't play in the same conference.

More to my point however...I actually view Plymouth as a first year team as they blew up their program last year and recruited, for the most part an entirely new team.

Given this... I guess I thought the subject deserved a slightly more indepth analyses than what nbound served up in his comparison that St Norbert has an international player and so does Plymouth State.

Ironically and to shed a little more light on how much thought went into the post I responded to initially...St Norbert actually have 3 International players. A Swede, a Finn and a Dane.

Current weather conditions are partly cloudy skies and an expected daytime high of -6 degrees C.

No Worries... I understand your thread... We need more tourneys with east vs. west competition. Put these petty arguments to bed...

Without a doubt SNC is very diverse... 1 Swed, 1 Fin, 1 Dane, 6 Canadians, 15 US (3 Illinois, 2 Wisconsin, 2 Minnesota, 1 Alaska, 1 North Carolina, 1 Arizona, 1 Nevada, 1 California, 2 Michigan, 1 Missouri) All Freshman.

Currently -4 F with windchill of -21, but a warm-up insight...

Just back from Midd, and 5 4 is correct in saying I wear a Bowdoin ball cap...I was over standing behind the Panther bench on the mezzanine level.
Congrats to Midd on their big win!

1-0 midd coach houle choking in big game situations?

Coach Houle had nothing to do with this loss. While it was an exciting game to watch with two of the top 5 teams, it was fairly even throughout the whole game, and only a mistake by Plattsburgh goalie letting in a weak shot (must have taken her eye off the puck) was the difference. Two great teams that I believe we will see in the NCAA's.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Why not count them? How many ECAC-E tournament titles have Holy Cross and St A's won? I'm not saying that they don't count...I didn't mean to imply that. But in the bigger picture, it doesn't matter if you finish in front of or behind those teams in that conference, Wins and losses against them don't matter. If the season were to end today, Manhattanville in all sense is #2, NEC #3

I haven't seen any west teams play, so I can't comment at all on their strength relative to the east. Although you're correct (and several folks have noted this) that Holy Cross and St. A's can't play in ECAC East tournament so it doesn't matter if teams finish in front of behind them, their participation in the REGULAR SEASON games of the ECAC East schedule does, I think, serve to make the league stronger than it would be without them. As a marketing/recruiting tool, it helps EC-E teams to be able to point to them and say that they play them at least once if not twice each season.

What confuses me, however, is how stats are calculated at the end of the year, especially when considering something like All-Americans. Since those are not D3 schools, do the goals/assists/saves/goals against in games against those schools count?

collegehockeystats.net separates them. When you look at national statistics it has the Div II/III women option or just the Div III women option. So at least there the stats are handily available either way. I would think as far as All American's go, stats against them would count...as it just shows your a complete player.

Ah, thank you. I always forget about that website and just look at the uscho stat pages for each team.

I don't think this is accurate. According to their lists, the stats for the DIII players is the same on both. The only difference is on the DII/III list the players from the DII schools are included.

They should do alright...couple of good coaches there. 1 Albertan, 1 Ashwaubenonian.

While he may not have been out coached this game I believe he has been in games in the last few years against big teams beginning with the stomping that Amherst put on the Cards in the quarterfinals a couple years ago.

I bring this up in the Midd game because it seemed that he just kinda threw people out onto the ice. In the last seconds of the game the Cards get a faceoff in their zone playiong 6 on 4 and they have their two leaders in points on the bench, one of which is a team leader in the faceoff department as well.
