D3 scores 2014-2015

That Canton roster got decimated from last year to this year. Makes you at least wonder if thats why after doing a national search all summer there was no announcement and they ended up promoting the assistant. Might have been hard getting an established coach to take on a new program that was already in rebuild mode after just one season.

The story I heard was the job was offered to a good, established prep school coach who would have brought stability to the program and built it up in a short period of time. However, he is Canadian and after committing to getting him a visa, Canton reneged when the process became too costly in both time and money. They have settled on a coach who is the remaining member of the staff that built and then 'decimated' this team, one of the reasons they lost the players they did. Very short sighted on the schools part and their struggles will continue.

Gustavus 2 Superior 0 after 2

Refs doin their best to get a Gustie win. 5 penalties called on Superior in the 2nd. Gusties score on a 5-3 and a regular power play. Finally call a couple on the Gusties late in the period, Superior will start 3rd on the PP.

Bethel-UWRF series...

UWRF wins last night 3-1
Bethel wins today 6-3

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

This was a weird series, both teams need to learn from this to make a run later in the year.

let's not forget Castleton

won both gaems this seekend in dominering style

they are now 4 and 0

best start in program history

bring on Norwich they will be beaten

Norwich not as strong this year

Appreciate the enthusiasm, but don't get too excited - the teams they have beaten are a combined 5-8 so far this season and the wins for them have largely come from playing amongst themselves (someone has to win those games). Post when they have beaten a team of any substance - most of your next few games would be a good win - Franklin Pierce, Plattsburgh, Manhattanville (maybe), Salve Regina, Williams, Middlebury. Beat a couple of these teams and you have something to post about.

Also- for God's sake check your spelling when you post. You spelled CASTLETON wrong in the thread you started for them!!! It doesn't reflect well on the school that the fans can't spell their own name.... :)

Several interesting series in the west this weekend. Anyone have any thoughts on Stevens Point@River Falls or Concordia(MN)@Gustavus?

Gustavus swept Concordia MN. I don't think this was a surprise.

River Falls and Stevens Point split. I don't think this was a suprise either.

The big surprise this weekend has to be Augsburg. They tied Bethel Friday night and then beat Bethel today 2-0. Those transfers/freshmen must be making a a difference. Good for them and the MIAC!

Gotta agree with HockeyEast33...before they worry about Norwich they should worry about the weekend they just had against ECAC East preseason #11/#13.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Saw this on the men's boards:

"Although not a men's score....Plattsburgh women score with 49.2 seconds left in regulation to defeat Castleton 4-3."

Looks like Castleton is doing just fine. Plattsburgh was 0/4 on the PP and Castleton was 1/3 on their PP. Shots favored the Cards 45-17. Having 3 goals against on only 17 shots is definitely not the norm for Platty but they pulled it out in the end.

Saw the third period via video. This was a great effort by Castleton, at least in the third. Plattsburgh clearly had more quality chances but Castleton had a chance to steal this one. That being said, they still haven't beaten a solid team and the 1-0 win over Nichols seems concerning...

Plattsburgh may lose a few that they should win this year without Aveson in net.

Saw the whole game via video. Plattsburgh came out strong in the first, and put up two goals. The Castleton goalie had trouble with rebound control during the whole game and Plattsburgh took advantage during the first period to score twice. The second period saw Castleton offense and defense step up more, and they even killed a 28 second 3 on 5. Castleton needs a little more seasoning, but they're looking pretty strong.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

The Castleton coach kind of knows the Cardinal playbook so I'm sure that helped them too.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Does anyone else here miss the days (not that long ago) when we had games between top D3 teams and lower level D1 teams? It was always an interesting way of calibrating the differences between D1 and D3, and typically the very best in D3 could hold their own against the weakest D1 teams. Would that still be the case? I think that it would, but it has been so long since that has been tested that it is tough to tell. Opinions?
