D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

We've been over 1,000 a couple times. I think the Oswego games were just a smidge under that. I'll look more later when I get home.

My bad, I guess I got caught up in # of seats listed on their website vs what their capacity could be in addition to that.

And if PSUChamps is right that there isn't a seating requirement for a hosting bid on the women's side, then it doesn't matter anyway...

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

New Rankings are out

Only change is the flip flop of Adrian and Lake Forest

East
1. Plattsburgh
2. Elmira
3. Amherst
4. Middlebury
5. Norwich
6. Castleton

West
1. Adrian
2. Lake Forest
3. River Falls
4. St. Thomas
5. Stevens Point
6. St. Norbert

At least I can understand why Utica isn't 6th this week after losing to Buff State....

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Might as well Look at the Comparisons again.

Barring another silly semifinal loss...I think its safe to assume Adrian is in win/lose on the NCHA championship. They were beating Middlebury/Amherst/Elmira in the comparisons last week and only strengthened with their sweep of Lake Forest.

Lake Forest vs Elmira
Win: .833 vs .860
SOS: .495 vs .598
RNK: 3-3-1 vs 3-3-1
COP: 0-1 vs 1-0

Elmira over Lake Forest 3-0-1

Amherst
Win: .891
SOS: .541
RNK: 1-0-3
COP: 0-0-2

Amherst wins comparison: 3-1

Middlebury
Win: .771
SOS: .615
RNK: 2-4-2
COP: --
H2H: Middlebury eked out a win

This is 2-2...you would think the huge SOS advantage and head to head would swing it Middlebury's way.

So it looks like Lake Forest needs to win the NCHA to make it?

This scenario probably puts
St. Thomas(or miac winner) at River Falls
Elmira at Adrian
Norwich at NESCAC winner
NESCAC loser at Plattsburgh

Bracket integrity is so compromised here that I think the Committee is not going to have Adrian and Elmira meet in the first round. Even if it means flying a team somewhere. So my guess?

NESCAC loser @ Plattsburgh
Norwich @ Adrian
NESCAC winner @ Elmira
St. Thomas @ River Falls

Possibly switch the NESCAC loser and Norwich. This is if bracket integrity means anything. Having #2 v. #3 play a QF game isn't a great scenario. This isn't perfect either, but I like it better than Adrian and Elmira playing in the first round.

It probably makes sense that they will fly someone, especially considering that if Lake Forest makes it in...both River Falls and St Thomas are outside 500 miles.

In a perfect bracket integrity world it would be
St Thomas @Plattsburgh
Norwich @Adrian
River Falls @ Nescac winner
Nescac loser @ Elmira

Right? Even that way you eastern folks could have your dreams come true with an all east final four!

You can bet they won't do three flights.....:D

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

They'd drop-kick bracket integrity in a heartbeat to prevent an avoidable flight.

Matthew Webb informed me they are required to avoid flights. That's just plain sucks... Neither Elmira or Adrian deserves that. As it stands now, at least Adrian gets the home game out of it.

They've done the right thing in the past however to not avoid a flight.

The year Concordia Moorhead made it in. It was a very even consideration between Concordia and an eastern team...but Concordia did have the better numbers. They took the western team and flew concordia to RIT, I believe which was the right thing to do. Granted, Concordia got handled by RIT...but it was still the right thing to do :)

Would Amherst move ahead of Elmira in the rankings if Amherst wins the NESCAC and Elmira loses in the ECAC-W tourney?

That way you're at least sending the 4 to the 2 instead of the 3 to the 2

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

The crazy thing with all of this is that with the Pool B, River Falls will make the NCAA tourney over Lake Forest who would have gotten in before River Falls if this were last year. Seems unfair :)

Fixed your post...:)

Next year, with a 6th Auto Bid, it would seem any WIAC team wanting to get in can only lose a couple games or maybe none at all.

It appears river falls is way ahead of Stevens point at this time and it's doubtful that they will overtake them.

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

I think we can boil this down pretty easily.

Plattsburgh-Elmira
Amherst-Middlebury
Adrian-Lake Forest

At least three of these teams are guaranteed to end up in Pool C. I don't foresee anyone else grabbing a Pool C this year. Everyone else's season is now Pool A or bust. No one else need apply. And at least one of the above teams are guaranteed to miss the tournament.

My vote to miss the tournament is Plattsburg....

Saw those games and Buff State impressed me. Not much of a talent gap between those two squads.

So the East can send 6 teams? It seems to me that UC would deserve a look if they go into Elmira and pull off the upset this weekend...

From previous posts I seem to gather that the process relies on a version of the PWR? Or it just as obscure as the D-3 men's deal?

Utica would have to win the ECAC-W. The East can't get 6 times, they could get 4 or 5. You have two autobids in the west and River Falls or Stevens Point will get a spot

At this point Utica hasn't cracked the NCAA rankings so I wouldn't imagine them jumping up to 2nd or 3rd in the East with a win over Elmira.

Its the same process as the D3 men

Not much of a talent gap from 3rd to 6th and 7th through 10th often challenge 3rd through 6th too. If UC upsets Elmira this weekend it will really be a miracle. They don't play this weekend.
