D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Dumb question. Yeah, I know, big surprise there, right?

Is there a place where I can track the NCAA strength of schedule as games are updated? Or do I have to wait until next week's regional rankings are issued? Am I missing something here?

You have to wait

The KRACH updates the SOS continually....it is a different number system...but is a good indicator of the SOS RNK.

Hammer, do you know if Adrian meets the requirements for hosting the frozen four? I know they need to have 4 locker rooms...i'm not sure if there is a seating requirement.

It would be interesting if Adrian wins the NCHA tourney...would they make Adrian the overall #1 seed and have the teams travel there for the frozen four? That would settle the out west every so many years requirement. I guess it doesn't really save much on flights unless Elmira and Lake Forest make the frozen four.

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Yes, I think we're good to go if it comes to that. But I also think we've still got the cart about 2 miles ahead of the horse on this point.

Even so, this is moot. Platty's gonna be #1 overall, and rightfully so. Their body of work this year suggests nothing else.

I know. There is a requirement that the tourney be held out west once every 4 years. I would assume we are coming up on that threshold, so at some point it will have to go to a western team. 3 seasons ago it was in superior, so they have to either this year or next year if that rule still stands

They usually announce a pre-determined site before the tournament (or the season) starts - Superior was known far in advance. I suspect that next season they will pick a Western location in advance and announce it during the season...

I believe that they were in there "pre-determined sites" phase when Superior hosted and that failed miserably with low attendance because Superior wasn't there. I believe the year before RIT was the predetermined site, and happened to be the best team anyways. I know there are also issues in the west with who is fit to host. I don't think River Falls or Stevens Point have arenas that meet the standard. If I remember right, Gustavus hadn't put in a bid to hos that year, so they weren't in contention. It would be logical if they were going to do a predetermined site to do it at the Ridder in the twin cities or maybe at the Badgers Arena in Madison. It makes flying in a lot easier for the eastern folks. I don't imagine they would have a predetermined site at one of the colleges again with no guarantee of the host school being there.

I heard it was 5 years, which would give us 2 more seasons. I could be wrong, though.

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

If they somehow put it out west this year instead of next, I hope it's Adrian. At least I'd be able to go if Plattsburgh is in.

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Adrian may also find themselves in the exact same boat that Plattsburgh found themselves in last year, with the men's team in the QF at the same time as the women's semis and finals.

They did it that one time because they knew it was going to be out West that year. Every other year, they wait until the QF games are played to determine the Frozen Four site. In that vein, if Adrian does win its QF game, this would be a good opportunity to have Adrian host the Frozen Four. They would be a solid #2 overall at worst and Plattsburgh has hosted the last two years.

But once again you run into the whole "practice" issue if the Adrian men are there.

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

Is Adrian definitely eligible to host? Their arena only holds 500 seats. I'm pretty sure there is a minimum seating requirement but I can't remember the number...

In the last 5 years the lowest attendance was listed as 503 at Superior when Elmira won. The rest were all at least 1100 people...

That's because it was out East. You're not going to see 1100+ out west. BTW Adrian has hosted several games at 700+...

My question isn't what the attendance will be per se (but the more the merrier, of course!), my concern is if their capacity is within the requirements for a championship bid to host it at all...

I'm pretty sure one of the times the Oswego men went out to Adrian for a NCAA Quarterfinal there were closer to 1,000 people listed in the attendance.

Re: D3 Regional Rankings and Bracketology

We've been over 1,000 a couple times. I think the Oswego games were just a smidge under that. I'll look more later when I get home.
