D3 Frozen Four

Re: D3 Frozen Four

If they go back on their own rules, all they do is blow any credibility that they are achieving in D3 women's hockey. I'm sure they prefer to show a strong persona rather than cave in on their own rules and appear weak. Going West this year is a good idea. Showcase the D3 talent in a different part of the country. People wood love to see the the best of the East at the tourny. My personal choice of venue would be the Schwann Super Rink(Bethels home rink) in Blaine MN or the Greenheck center in Wi or Seven Bridges in Il. All neutral sites for the western team or teams that would be involved in the tourny.

Cornerstone in Green Bay, WI, which is also the location of the Women's and Girl's USAH Nationals. Just a thought.

Agreed, it would be a great place to showcase D3 College talent to high school aged champions and their parents and women hockey fans in general.

DIII Finals (March 19-20) would be the weekend before the Women's USAH Nationals (March 26-28) which are followed by the Girls Nationals (April 7-11).

Cornerstone is just a great facility used by Men's DIII Contender St Norbert College and has 3 sheets including a new olympic size rink with great seating.

I have a the D3 frozen four will end up in DePere within the next 5 years with SNC starting their women's team. Just a hunch

Think they are going to have that much success right away?

Just asking your opinion not being sarcastic or an ***.

There is no doubting SNC's rich hockey history on the men's side.

I'm just curious if SNC will be able to establish themselves as a power right away and just pluck recruits away from the western powerhouses right off the bat.

I think SNC should take a Norwich game plan into this and expect to kind of take their lumps during their first year and then come back in their second and third seasons and possibly compete for a top 10 or top 15 ranking.

Re: D3 Frozen Four

This is the response I have received from Garnet Asmundson, the Chair of the D-III Women's Ice Hockey committee, when asked if there had been any changes to the rule.

"From what I have heard the DIII Championship will be in the West. Where, who will host is TBD."

I realize for some, even this wont be able to get through the tin foil hats, but you can't get more definitive than this.

Simple enough. Now comes the hard part. Will the Committee select the two Pool C teams based on competitive criteria, or $$$? Will they fly 2 or three teams west? In a year where it seems every Western team is going out of its way to eliminate themselves from Pool C consideration, it should be interesting.

It will be a 5-2 split.

Its tough to say. The NCHA is so strong that it might be more difficult for them than in the ECAC-E where there are only a few contending teams. I think they will have success early for two reasons. The name recognition on the men's side will help them draw in recruits. Secondly, I know that the school is going to go into this 110% IF you looke at BTD they already have 18 recruits listed for next season, and a lot of them are from good hockey teams. The other newer NCHA schools recruited mostly close to home, where SNC has recruits from AZ, CA, WI, IL, MI, MO, Ontario, Alberta...they have been busy lining up players.

Did SNC have a club team?

Re: D3 Frozen Four

all the discussion here died.

I think tonights results really opened the way for a 4-3 split as long as Elmira/Plattsburgh win the ECAC west and Amherst wins the NESCAC.....can't say that Middlebury or RIT really deserve to be in over a top western team right now.

I'm not sure why you are kicking RIT to the curb. True that they are not running up the score on weaker opponents, but their 2 losses are to 2 of the top 3 teams in D3 and each time they managed to pull out a tie in the other game of the series. As long as Plattsburgh doesn't blow them out of the water, the only knock against them is that they haven't defeated any of the top teams. Ties do mean something, though.

That should read.."True that they are not running up the score on weaker opponents anymore...." :)

you also have the tie to Neumann...if they don't get points from Plattsburgh...they won't be in consideration unless they win the ECAC-W tourney. I find it highly unlikely that you will see 3 teams from 1 conference this year.

Actually this is starting to shape up a lot like last season except there aren't 2 quality teams available from NESCAC (or from ECAC-E for that matter). Find me a team out west who hasn't LOST to other than a top-5 team and send them instead of RIT. Oh, that's right, there aren't any.

About the only chance that RIT doesn't make it is if someone pulls off the upset of Amherst in the NESCAC playoff. Or if RIT loses to someone other than Plattsburgh or Elmira going forward. Utica is about the only other team that has a decent chance of stealing a point IMHO from them.

Re: D3 Frozen Four

Ridder Area would be a good place to have it.

I think they should join the D1 and D3 Final 4 together. Draw more fans, get more hockey to watch on the trip and maybe save some $$$ by not having to duplicate everything. Plus a lot of these kids know each other so they would get a good chance to see some of their old hockey buds play

but then you run into the issue they had last year where one team, in theory, is gonna coast to the ECAC-W championship game and two top teams will play each other (see RIT getting picked apart by Plattsburgh last year.) and when that happened, RIT got left out. Granted, back to your first point, this year could be different because of seemingly less NESCAC competition
