D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

Well then you aren't a Franchise Player nor will you ever be.....

Ha!

Like I said, I don't discount your comment that the "handshake" is special and unique to hockey - I completely agree with you that it is something that separates hockey from the other sports. I also agree that there has always been (or at least used to be, before the salary explosions - but that's another thread altogether) something "humble" about hockey players, and much of that remains to this day. I just don't get the connection you made. But that's probably b/c you and I do not agree about lopsided scores...

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

During all this lively discussion of running up the score I'm kind of surprised that one topic hasn't been brought up. That would be the defense leaving the goalie out to dry. When 3rd and 4th liners are passing the puck around for :30-1:00 and then shooting and the puck finds the way to the back of the net you can't blame the shooting team but look at the defense.

"you can't blame the shooting team but look at the defense".... Forgive me, but what the hell does that mean.

If you read my post instead of trolling you would know what I mean. But for you I'll explain what I was saying. When you have the bottom lines of the team being accused of running up the score on the ice passing around in the zone so that it makes it look like they are trying to still play the game and then shoot and the puck ends up in the back of the net you have to start shifting blame to the defense of the team getting shat on. When teams are throwing softies at the net and they still end up behind the goalie is it really the better teams fault anymore.

It's ok there " Chirpy" we understand. ( i cant say i necassarily agree )but i do understand that sometimes portions of a run up score cannot be avoided.

Dont know why Can Hockey Guy reacted as strongly as he did. He's been acting a little pugnacious and truculent lately (we call them " Burkiesms" here in the Great White North .If CanHockeyGuy doesnt know what that means then he's a wannabe who just needs a good " jerseying" to get him back in line !

"Trolling"...hmm.. can't see it - "Shat on"...hmm... Well, shat on has a whole different meaning around here.
I'm sorry, but....Hey 5-4, what do you make of this?

I guess it leaves me wondering why teams like EC & Platty and to some extent now RIT haven't run up the scores on more challenged teams under the same circumstances. Can't speak for anyone else in that mix but I do know that the EC coach is a Canadian and you won't see any of his teams run up the score into the teens any time soon. I'll leave it to you to figure out why...but I'll assure you it isn't because he's a former basketball star from Duke or whatever.

Re: D3 Decisions: Running up the score

There is the opening I've been waiting for...See we don't care what happens in Basketball, Football, Soccer, LaX, etc...Hockey is different. There is a respect factor in this game that differs from any other sport. It's ingrained in the sport. No other Professional teams that I'm aware of go to the middle of the playing surface after a playoff series and line up to shake hands regardless of what transpired during that series. If they do...they learned it from hockey. It sets the sport apart in the same way as not running up the score is considered taboo. Now do you get it?

Wrong. Rugby eclipses hockey in this respect and I have never seen a brawl break out in the middle of a rugby game like I have in hockey.
