D1 Scores and Highlights

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Ohio State completes the sweep over Minnesota State by a final score of 4-2. Goals were scored by Taylor Kuehl, Natalie Spooner, Ally Tarr, and Kelly Wild. Lisa Steffes got her second win this weekend in goal for the Buckeyes. With the sweep, the Buckeyes moved into 4th place in the WCHA, only trailing Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota. The Buckeyes will host North Dakota in a key series next weekend.

Unfortunatly that may have been the last win of the season for the Buckeyes given their remianing schedule. My call would be a tie for 5th against BSU given the schedules, how does the tie breaker work given they are tied in head to head?

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

No video and no game tracker...nothing worked today and as usual with these services the people in charge are asleep at the wheel...I was basically told that there was no problem...even though the video started instantly yesterday, although with no audio in the first period.

Today, after several attempts to get it started the 'watch" button disappeared and then the "launch" button for the game tracker (live stats) later disappeared while the game drained away...at which point you would not be able to get it started even if it wanted to cooperate with you since the command buttons were gone. These services are some of the most poorly run that I have ever come across. You can't be sure from one day to the next what you are going to get (one period, two, the whole game, good video quality or bad, audio or not, etc., etc.) if anything...but one thing is certain...they already have your money.

I've asked for a refund...we'll see.

In the interest of fairness, I should mention that they have agreed to refund my money.

Not to diminish their proper and prompt business decision, which is as it should be, I would much rather have received what I bargained for. It would also be helpful if they didn't make it so difficult to find how to contact them when there is a problem. It consumes a lot of time as the game that you want to watch drains away.

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

Carrying over from the WCHA thread regarding Saturday's UND-SCSU game...
Just got a look at the box score - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1112/boxes/wndkstc1.j21 - and saw the two fighting majors and game DQs. Anyone have any insight on that?

I don't remember ever seeing a fighting major called in a women's game... not even in the brawl between UND and Minnesota State 3 years ago. And Leah Wrazidlo was the referee in that game as well.
Does anyone recall a fighting major being called in an NCAA women's game before?

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

I'm not sure how the tie break would work. The Buckeyes have 8 of the 12pts. from the Bemidji series. With 2 Wins, 1 OT shoot out win and 1 loss.

Seems like we have this discussion every year. Here's the tie-breaking procedure in the WCHA.
WCHA Tie-Breaking Procedures (for playoff seeding purposes only):

In the event that ties are encountered in the determination of WCHA ranking or designation of home teams for playoff purposes, the following procedures will be used in the order given to break the ties:

a) If two or more teams are tied, head-to-head competition during the regular (conference) season will be used to break the tie. (Note that any game that went to a shootout will be considered a tie, and the result of the shootout will be ignored.)

b) If two or more teams are still tied after (a), the highest seed will go to the team with the most WCHA (conference) wins during the regular season. (Regulation or overtime, not shootouts.)

c) If two or more teams played a four-game series during the regular season and the teams have the same win-loss records for those series and the same number of WCHA wins, the team having the least number of goals scored against it in the four-game series shall have the higher rank.

d) If two or more teams are still tied after applying the provisions of (a), (b) and (c), the team having the greatest ‘winning margin’ during the regular season will have the higher rank. Winning margin = WCHA goals for during the regular season minus WCHA goals against.

e) Games played against WCHA opponents in holiday tournaments will not be counted in the determinations.
So with Ohio State going 2-1-1 against Bemidji State, only rule (a) comes into play -- OSU has the tiebreaker.

Not I- maybe make it into like a poll?

As to fighting- seems NY Times articles re, 'enforcers', may be having a positive effect: reduced fighting despite Gary Bettman (and if i stray here as to G.B., please, anyone, chip in here with good stuff re this guy...).

Re: D1 Scores and Highlights

I remembered a game a few years back when UNH visited Mercyhurst that ended in a bench clearing melee, Evidiently, no fighting major called. per se, but draw your own conclusion.

UNH-13 Sam Faber (2-Roughing) 18:21
UNH-14 Maggie Joyce (2-Roughing) 18:21
UNH-15 Sam Faber (10-Misconduct) 18:21
UNH-16 Maggie Joyce (10-Misconduct) 18:21
UNH-17 Kacey Bellamy (2-Unsportsmanlike Conduct) MRC 2x11 18:21
MRC-15 Kristen Erickson (2-Roughing) 18:21
MRC-16 Jesse Scanzano (2-Roughing) 18:21
MRC-17 Kristen Erickson (10-Misconduct) 18:21
MRC-18 Jesse Scanzano (10-Misconduct) 18:21

That's the way I remember most of the calls going until this past weekend... each player got a minor, double-minor, or major for roughing, and a 10-minute or game misconduct. But no fighting major was called and no DQ. That was the case in the 2006 NCAA Quarterfinal between Minnesota and Princeton and the previously-mentioned UND-MSU game in 2008.

So to see the fighting major this time around shocked me a bit.

A quick note to everyone....today I looked at my bank transactions and had numerous debits from when I had gone online to watch a women's broadcast, wanting to ONLY watch that one game and have a ONE TIME charge! So obviously the moral here is be sure that you want the recurring monthly charge for said access because it adds up quickly.....CBSsports and Dartmouth have recurring accounts, and yes both have credited back the mistake after I contacted them but I'm old fashioned and don't think I should have to monitor a simple one time transaction.....but that's me

Had that same issue with a Providence game a few seasons ago. The actual web cast was cancelled, and not only did I not get a refund, but three months later was charged for some other CBSsports event as well.

I sincerely doubt those were the Buckeyes last wins.

Where do you see them getting a win out of curiosity. I don't see the Gophers or the Badgers dropping a game at this point in the season. UND and UMD need every win they can get to into the NCAAs as well. Your Buckeyes are playing for pride and to be a spoiler at this point, then a 5th place finish sends them on the road to Duluth in all liklihood. So it could be next season before they see another win in my book. Anything the rest of this year will be an upset!

So you expect the order of finish to be UW, UM, UND, UMD, OSU, BSU, SCSU, MSU? That seems very possible given the remaining schedules. Ironically, the third place team may wind up with a tougher quarter, because Bemidji has all the pieces to make them a tough team to eliminate in a three-game series, although they don't play as well on the road.

Me thinks the Buckeyes can win a game against UMD if they that ends up being the play-off match-up.

I would agree that a win in the WCHA 1st round is their best shot at a win. Still it would be an upset though, I think they are good enough to grab a win somewhere else as well. I just think the top teams will be ready to play at this point in the season and the games will all be meaningful, so I don't see it happening. I also think SM will be guarding against even a meaningless loss in the WCHA 1st round as it could very well cost UMD a shot at the NCAAs. I don't see UMD beating UW and UM to get the auto bid, even at home.
