D-III All-Americans Watch

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Johann Ryd, F, SNC (19GP, 7-14-21) should probably get a loook. Yeah, his #'s aren't off the chart or anything, but with 5 GWGs, he's the last guy I want bearing down on my goalie with 3 minutes left in a tied game.

To be fair, Ryd's GWG are interesting if you look into them. Most came by way of scoring the 3rd goal in a 6-2 win, for example. That said, him on the AA team shouldn't surprise anyone. He'd be one of my first F picks from the West were I building a team.

Aside from that, people should be careful not to place too much emphasis on points alone -- especially for defensemen. There's a lot more that goes on out there than who gets the most second assists on the power play - especially for guys on very deep teams. Derek Paige from Superior a few years back is a prime example of this. Only had 11 points maybe but deservedly received AA his junior season.

The same goes for goalies in a way. Just because a good goalie has great numbers on a great team by no way means he's one of the best in the region.

Thankfully coaches notice such things at a far higher rate than the fans and generally do a solid job of voting. If only the same thought were put into their USCHO poll ballots...

Andy -- Minor correction...Jo has six GWGs (to lead the nation).
He has one of the most accurate wrist shots I have seen in D3 hockey.

If you equate consistancy with points, you are probably right, however, I would say consistancy is how one performs on ice, game in and game out. I can't remember a game I've seen this year where Thomas has just gone through the motions on a shift, even when not 100% physically. Probably the same can be said for Satim, although I think early in the year Emery was a bit peeved at his performance, or lack thereof, in a couple instances.

Add-on: Paige did have 16 points (2-14-16) the year he was AA, but they were far from the only reason he was selected.

I strongly disagree. Emery constantly since day 1 has made it very clear Satim is the hardest working player on and off the ice every night. So I don't know where you ever heard Emery being peeved.

Why because u saw him play once and it arguably was his worst game of the season? He's the best goalie hands down in the nescac and a big reason why Williams isn't a 500 team.

He's good, but not the second best goalie in the East. I agree with all of your picks except that one, Prezde.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Id much rather see McDonald of Elmira then Purdy...Purdy hasnt been stellar against the top of the league. Sure he has 4 shut outs...Tufts, UNE, Trinity and St.Mikes. Purdy hasn't kept a Top 25 team under 3 goals all season except Nicols...

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

One of the two dudes splitting time in net for Castleton. They both have great numbers.

I was thinking Cinotti or McNary as well but you never know how voters will look at the fact that neither one has carried the load. Evan Smith and Nick Therrien from Utica fall into that same category.

As inconsistent as McDonald looked at the beginning of the year, Remy might be right on track in picking him. The only other guys in the East with strong numbers that have started most of their teams games are Jack Astedt of Plymouth and Nick Broadwater of Hobart. We have already discussed the competition that Astedt has faced and Broadwater has been a bit up and down.

Agree, splitting time is hard but to me McDonald is one of, if not the main, reason Elmira is where they are today....

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Personally I feel bad for particular goalie that would be an All-American on many other teams, Caylin Relkoff is on heck of a goalie but the teams around him have been have always been poor defensively and offensively. My personal opinion is that if he was on a Plattsburgh, Oswego or Norwich he would be an All American. I think that Seth McNary or Ryan Purdy would be on the 2nd team.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

I only have an idea about the NCHA but here are the players I have liked this season. I have seen every team play at least once except UWSP.

F Branden Gay UWSt
F Jordan Singer UWEC
F Johan Ryd STN
D Nick Tabisz STN
D Garret Suter UWEC
G B.J O'Brien STN

2nd team
F Justin Brossman UWRF
F Kurt Weston UWEC
F Talon Berlando UWS
D Jason Cohen UWSt
D John Bullis UWRF
G Nick Graves UWSP

I think Lewan makes for a very formidable case for the best goaltender in the NCHA because he kept RF in games for much of the season when they couldn't score. Lately his numbers have slipped slightly as RF's goal production goes up. His play this upcoming weekend and the NCHA tournament could propel him to the top of the conference in my book or confirm that he belongs just outside this year.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Eastern All-Americans
Josh Harris Castleton
Stuart Stefan Castleton
Dan Wienagar Bowdoin
Kyle Shearer Hardy Bowdoin
Houk - Hamilton
Paul Beckwith - Oswego

Consistency on a good team all year, I know there are a lot of good players, however these guys have not taken a game off all year win or loose they are always the best players on the ice, and due to the talent levels on their team they do shine more than some of the Norwich and Platty guys because they get more opportunity to do so, but they make good with those opportunities so they are ALL - Americans.
