D-III All-Americans Watch

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Eastern All-Americans
Josh Harris Castleton
Stuart Stefan Castleton
Dan Wienagar Bowdoin
Kyle Shearer Hardy Bowdoin
Houk - Hamilton
Paul Beckwith - Oswego

Consistency on a good team all year, I know there are a lot of good players, however these guys have not taken a game off all year win or loose they are always the best players on the ice, and due to the talent levels on their team they do shine more than some of the Norwich and Platty guys because they get more opportunity to do so, but they make good with those opportunities so they are ALL - Americans.

Castleton won't get two first-teamers. Take it to the bank. Not saying they aren't deserving but they just won't.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

I only have an idea about the NCHA but here are the players I have liked this season. I have seen every team play at least once except UWSP.

F Branden Gay UWSt
F Jordan Singer UWEC
F Johan Ryd STN
D Nick Tabisz STN
D Garret Suter UWEC
G B.J O'Brien STN

Suter plays for UWSP not UWEC

FWIW:
the 2 castleton players conf. only stats are more earthly
Harris 15 8 17 25 GP G A PTS
Stephan 15 8 12 20 GP G A PTS

both roughly 40% lower than overall stats, whereas the others mentioned are closer to 20% lower, (Houk ~30%)

not sure if that matters or not for selections though

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

what about Tim Coffman?

10 goals, 22 assists on a team where's he been doing more of the dirty work than he used to to get the young kids involved in the offense. i'd look out for a kid like jon gaffney or chris santiago in a year or two as well.

Coffman was easily the most noticeable Pioneer in the two games I saw them play against Oswego. He didn't have any points to show for it but he made the checking line work to keep him off the board.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

Why because u saw him play once and it arguably was his worst game of the season? He's the best goalie hands down in the nescac and a big reason why Williams isn't a 500 team.

I have to disagree here. I would say a large part of the reason Williams isn't a sub .500 team is because of their weak schedule.

Williams record against teams .500 and below is 10-1-0 which puts them at 1-5-2 against teams over .500. That lone win was against Nichols. Not exactly lighting the world on fire. In the 11 games against teams .500 and below he gave up 14 goals. In 8 games against teams above .500 he gave up 24 goals.

It is a matter of opinion but those number don't scream All American to me.

Just Sayin'

Logic dictates that the best players would typically be found on the best teams from the best leagues. Nominating the best players from good teams in bad leagues doesn't make sense. Sort of like voting Plymouth State as a top 10 team; not much with which to compare / contrast.

Re: Just Sayin'

Re: Just Sayin'

Purdy is one of the best goalies in D3, and he is a huge reason why Williams is a .500 team. Because of his subpar record against quality teams, IMO McDonald, right now, would get the nod over Purdy. Or, at least he should. You can forget about any goalies who split time (Castleton, Utica). Don't sleep on Josh Leis though. His numbers are very similar to McDonald's, and if somehow McDonald falls apart at the end and Leis can continue his success, he could be highly considered.

Re: Just Sayin'

Re: Just Sayin'

Gotta say Paul Beckwith for goalie, the man is on fire, he's 16-0 for the season so far with a save pct. of .938, and one of the lowest GAA in the nation with 1.68, not to mention he shut out Geneseo with a broken collar bone.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

As per usual in February of every season, I'll fire this thread up again.

I'll only do Eastern teams since those are the teams I have watched most and are most familiar with. If someone would like to do the west, by all means ago ahead and do it.

Here's my picks right now for the All-Americans. I'll update this list every week if I feel it needs to be changed etc.

East 1st Team:

F.Josh Harris, Castleton
F.Daniel Weiniger, Bowdoin
F.Kevin Willer/Darcy Vallaincourt, Elmira (I can't decide which!)
D.Kyle Shearer-Hardy, Bowdoin
D.Joe Houk, Hamilton
G.Paul Beckwith, Oswego

East 2nd Team:

F.Jordan Oye, Fredonia
F.Eric Satim, Plattsburgh
F.Jeremiah Ketts, Johnson & Wales
D.Paul Conter, Southern Maine
D.Danny Scagnelli, Geneseo
G.Ryan Purdy, Williams

Those are the picks for this week.

Does consideration for All-American go all the way through the post season or just regular season play?

All-Americans are awarded at the banquet the night before the Frozen Four starts.

I believe the voting takes place the week prior so yes, up until the NCAA Quarterfinals are taking into consideration when voting on All-Americans.

After the last 5 games would he still be in the runnning?

Even with a very tough stretch here lately he is still 16-1 with a 1.87 GAA and a .932 save percentage so I would stay he is still in the running. Another couple of tough games and he will be out of the running.

Re: D-III All-Americans Watch

After this weekend, I think MacDonald should be a strong contender for the second team.

His defense (especially Sawyer and Lee) doesn't hurt his chances. In fact, they make him look like an All-American. There were precious few quality scoring chances this weekend.

Prez why no consideration for Norwich forwards Scott Schroeder and Pier-Olivier Cotnoir. Also Kyle Thomas has been playing outstanding hockey of late. The Norwich guys may not have the highest numbers but are all great all around players. Dylan Clark of Plattsburgh is also a prime time player too.

There are only six forward spots. Cotnoir probably has a good shot, especially if he keeps up this tear he has been on.

Thomas doesn't have the numbers, but I could see Cotnoir or Schroeder. Probably the former rather than the latter. Clarke is good but I think Satim is the sparkplug for that team and they are only getting one guy on the list.

I was more surprised you didn't complain about Harris not being on the list from your Spartans.

Just my opinion but I like the Norwich top forwards over Harris and Stefan. If both teams make it to the ECAC E finals the comparisions will probable play out more although Castleton has an outstanding freshmen goaltender who could be difficult to score on.
