Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Great game. Im really glad I went to the CRHC, it was a great experience, the view wasnt all that bad, it wasnt really all that cold and it was a great game.
We did have an incident where some college girl has way to much to drink, passed out and when my girlfriend went to get security to have them send an EMT to help, they didnt even know the procedure for calling an EMT and werent in much of a hurry to find help. We did manage to find an EMT in the crowd and the girl at least had a strong pulse, so hopefully she is OK. We definetly will be contacting someone in the athletic department or whatever because thats BS. If it really were a medical emergency, it could have ended really badly for that girl.
BTW, to those of you who doubted that it was all you could eat and drink at the Badger Warmup, I enjoyed several brats and beers and other than the $20 cost of admission, it didnt cost me a thing. I also got to enjoy listening to the UW band play live and it was fun to spend a little time hanging out in the fieldhouse. Good times.
The fan experience was pretty cool too. They had a display of all these old sticks and jerseys, had a display of several of the player tropheys they give out every year and they had a bunch of "test your hockey skills" stands which were a lot of fun.
Not to mention when they did, "jump around" that was a blast too. I think that was a great idea to get the fans warmed up, to get the team fired up and its just a great Camp Randall tradition.
Hopefully they do a game like this again in another 5 years or so.
I also skated on the rink Friday night when they had the public skate, which was a pretty magical experience. The ice was so chewed up but I didnt care because I knew that was probably going to be the closest Im ever going to get to skating on the Badgers' rink, so it was awesome. I didnt end up waiting in line to see the Stanley Cup though. They said it was a 2 1/2 hour wait and I had to meet some friends from dinner and just didnt have time to do both. I basically had to make a choice about what was more important and to me, skating on the rink was more important than seeing the Stanley Cup.
Im really glad I went and if they do another game like that in 5 years or so, I'll go again.

It was a pretty darn cool event, although alot of the students around me were clearly at their first hockey game. For instance, I heard this comment around the 10:00 mark of the first.
"We're only up 1-0? God we suck!"

Idiots....

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

And if anyone wants to claim some bias, I'm surprised they haven't brought up the goal crease situation (the one where MI defended twice from).

Which is what I have against outdoor games. Bad ice, especially in the crease, is unfortunate.

The event was a success and I’m happy about that, but let’s not do this regularly.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

I give up.

lol

Probably the best call.

It was a fun game, and I'm glad I went, tailgating was the most fun of the day (had some good fires going to keep warm, haha)...but to me it wasn't as cool as the Lambeau game simply because it was more of the same, for the most part...and since I'm more of a Packer football fan than Badger football fan, it just wasn't as neat of experience.

Even things like doing Jump Around didn't seem as cool as at Lambeau, again because I've already experienced that basically.

I wish they would just do it like once a decade. If more often than that, do Lambeau again, maybe try it at Miller Park, whatever.

Efff yes.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Bennett would have given up more in this game, IMO

That statement is horse doodoo. You have absolutely nothing to base this on. I know it's YHO, but even opinions have to be based on some sensible fact to be taken seroiusly. Not that anyone is taking you seriously on this board, but to make a negative critial statement about a player based on nothing is just plain wrong.

That 2nd goal Goody let in was horrible. But they overcame it and won.

I think the penalty call on UM that lead to the 3rd goal was weak to say the least, but we'll take it.

Admission: $20.00
Food: Free
The inability to understand economics: Priceless.

;)

I kind of feel the same way about Bennett. I still feel that Gudmanson is the better goalie but if you look at the stats, Bennett has better stats.
I just get the impression that Gudmanson has much more confidence but the stats are something that are unbiased and dont lie.
It doesnt help that the first time I saw Bennett play was the 2nd game against the Gophers when the Badgers got blown out of the building.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

I went to both the women's and the men's game. Just got back home. I enjoyed the games, I too ran in to some similar comments as far as it seeming like some people were at their first game. Overall I enjoyed the event, however, I think there are some things that could have made it better. I won't necessarily elaborate on them, but I think involving the fans a bit more or bringing things closer to the stadium would have been nice (i.e. fan experience). I don't know if I'd go to another outdoor college game, perhaps I will if the Sioux play one. I didn't enjoy being that far away from the ice, being in the student section, let alone anywhere else. I like the Kohl Center, or any other arena, even though you may be in a "crappy" seat, it's still better than a stadium, IMO. It raises my doubts about the atmosphere at the F4 then too, because it's in a stadium, it won't be as "intimate" an atmosphere, if you will.

It was good to see the home team win, the women's game was slow, it was my first one, probably my last. Guy's game was better, until they had to keep fixing the ice, but that comes with the outdoors I suppose.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

Have the game preceded by an Admirals game and it's a deal.

I wonder if they can fit two rinks on a baseball field?
It would give a new meaning to "double-header".

With an NFL field it will work: 100 yards + 20 yards (end zone) + 5 yards each end = 390'. It would be tight but workable at NHL sizes.

I suppose the whistles would cause a little confusion. Oh well it sounded good for a few seconds. :o

I know we're having fun with this, but Milwaukee doesn't support hockey. All of the fans for the MPDH (rumours anyone :D ) Miller Park Double Header would be from Madison and other areas.

Have you ever been to a hockey game at the Milwaukee Pettit Center? What a cluster duck. Years ago I was at a Madison Capitol vs. Milwaukee Pettit AAA Peewee game. The rinks are back-to-back, not side-to-side and without partitions. There was another game going on AND there was speed skating competition at the same time. JFC, there were whistles, horns, and guns going off all over. What a mess; do they still do that?

Of all the cities in the State of Wisconsin, I think Milwaukee would rank dead last in supporting hockey. I mean most people there (as has been driven into the ground over and over previously) weren't even aware of the NCAA Frozen Four until the week of in 2006.

eff them. you could have the Blackhawks vs. Red Wings at Miller Park and if they got more than 20,000 in attendance it would absolutely be due to non-milwaukeans showing up.

I just have a bad taste in my mouth having lived there for so long as a Badger Hockey fanatic and seeing that team get shorted on press coverage perpetually.

I mean, seriously. In the malaise that was awful badger football in the 70's, then again after mclain, and awful packer football from the 70's until 1994-95 or so...who was the consistent winner and champion in this state? UW hockey. but I guess that's just sour grapes on my part. journal sentinel and the local tv up there are worthless. just worthless.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

I can only speak for my 30 friends and I that went to the game yesterday, but we'd pretty much all rather go watch a Badger hockey game at Miller Park than Camp Randall (now that CR has been done).

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

I went to many Showdowns in Milwaukee, and most of the fans were from Madison. I think more people came in from BU than were locals.

GB is a better hockey community with the Gamblers.

Re: Culvers Camp Randall Hockey Classic: Michigan vs UW.. Brrrrrrrr!

BTW, I loved the fly-over by Madison based F-16s. It was a bit late, but I think Madison's "lefties" didn't let the 115th Fighter Wing go supersonic with full afterburner.

They should have done some fly-bys over Willy St, then Monroe St, then over Camp Randall!! :D

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.
