Just listening to these first responders out there pleading for protective gear...its going to be a nightmare if they have to make decisions about who lives..and who dies. Think that's an alarmist position? That's what Italy is facing. Dont kid yourself it could happen here. Trump has those "executive orders" he brags about..now's the time to use them. It's too late for that family who lost 4 immediate family members in NJ.

Way to go Gov Cuomo..you're doing the right thing..so is Cali. Cuomo right now "we will pay a premium" for much needed supplies. Hes practically begging. While I agree that less government is best but right now I feel pretty let down by this response so far.

Of all things to slow down in the supply chain, I think some people’s meds are getting the short shift.

My normally level headed father in law is starting to send emails to the family saying “seems the right for gatherings are being taken away by the government. First amendment right”

Clearly some people get brain rot when they stay inside too long.

Lol. I’ve encountered similar. I have replied with they have the “right” to run red lights and stop signs, sure you’ll get a ticket, but you don’t HAVE to step on that brake pedal.......

The right to assemble is clearly stated in the First Amendment, while the "right" to run a red light is not, so the two are not the same.

FYI several large corp are looking into the ventilator issue. Several hurdles, ie liability, type of ventilator, ie there are many versions, ie how many bells and whistles do you need. The ventilator issue has been a concern for a VERY long time. There are many options, in fact ventilator design is often a senior design project, just depends what is acceptable via the FDA. Yes all such rules can can be cleared long as people are willing to deal with that issue.

Lot to unpack there but you lost me quickly with the "incompetence and irresponsibility" comments. Trump, it seems to me, has assembled a very strong team. The one member of the Trump team I have reservations about is Fauci though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's been around in one capacity or another for a very long time. If anyone should have seen this coming it should have been him. Having said that, we're talking about a crisis of biblical proportions by all accounts.

On Feb. 27, when the United States had 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19, President Trump was tamping down fears and suggesting the virus could be seasonal.

"It's going to disappear. One day, It's like a miracle. It will disappear," the president said then, before adding, "it could get worse before it gets better. It could maybe go away. We'll see what happens."

On that same day, Burr attended a luncheon held at a social club called the Capitol Hill Club. And he delivered a much more alarming message.

"There's one thing that I can tell you about this: It is much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history," he said, according to a secret recording of the remarks obtained by NPR. "It is probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic."

The message Burr delivered to the group was dire.

Thirteen days before the State Department began to warn against travel to Europe, and fifteen days before the Trump administration banned European travelers, Burr warned those in the room to reconsider.

"Every company should be cognizant of the fact that you may have to alter your travel. You may have to look at your employees and judge whether the trip they're making to Europe is essential or whether it can be done on video conference. Why risk it?" Burr said.

Sixteen days before North Carolina closed its schools due to the threat of Coronavirus, Burr warned it could happen.

"There will be, I'm sure, times that communities, probably some in North Carolina, have a transmission rate where they say, let's close schools for two weeks, everybody stay home," he said.

But in his public comments about the threat of COVID-19, Burr never offered the kind of precise warning that he delivered to the small group of his constituents.

But despite his longtime interest in bio-hazard threats, his expertise on the subject, and his role as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Burr did not warn the public of the government actions he thought might become necessary, like he did at the luncheon on Feb. 27.

Regarding his supposed travel restrictions made before anyone else told him to:

The conservative blog Powerline promoted the allegedly deleted tweet but later acknowledged it had been duped. So did the American Thinker. Schumer doesn’t appear to have criticized the restrictions, even as he has criticized the administration’s broader response.

When the Trump administration made the announcement Jan. 31, there was little in the way of a political disagreement about it. I’ve scoured reports from around the time and come up almost completely empty.

Republicans have frequently pointed to former vice president Joe Biden’s comments on the day the restrictions were announced, in which he referenced Trump’s “record of hysteria and xenophobia.” But Biden wasn’t directly talking about the China restrictions, as FactCheck.org has reported.

The timeline of that day is also important when it comes to Trump’s claim that this was a bold step. The travel restrictions actually came after the three major carriers who have service to China — American Airlines, Delta and United — had already announced earlier in the day that they would halt that service. As USA Today noted at the time, the move by the airlines “all but rendered White House action moot.”

And going back to the claims about opposition to the move, some Democrats actually seemed to praise it. Reps. Nita M. Lowey (D-N.Y.) and Rosa L. DeLauro (D-Conn.) on Feb. 4 commended Azar for the administration’s initial attempts to contain the virus, including mentioning quarantines and the “significant travel restrictions.”

“We strongly support your recent decision to declare a public health emergency in response to the ongoing outbreak of the 2019 novel Coronavirus,” they wrote.

Medical history is littered with stories of meds that were supposed to save the world and caused more harm than good. a lot of fast track approval comes from people wanting the new drug. NOW. it's very hard when you have a dying loved one. you want the new drug NOW. even if there is a chance of harm. the person is dying. like the new drug is going to do something worse than that??

I was lucky when Tom was dying. In this at least. The hospice was giving morphine. As the pain increased they had no problems with us (the family) increasing the dose as we saw fit. And increasing it again. And again. Keep the patient pain free was their mantra. I have friends who watched loved ones die in agony because pain meds were kept to a minimum to avoid addiction! Addiction!! When you are dying!

I've not watched today's briefing, recorded it for later. Yesterday the White House clearly shifted to a blame the media strategy, reminded all speakers to thank and praise the President and most obviously coordinated with OAN so the briefing would close with the media is against us message.

I am trying to be fair, reasonable, unbiased. I admit I am not, but I am trying. Just a few days ago I posted that the President had a good briefing and that VP Pence had done a good job.

Yesterday was off the rails and it sounds like today was into a ditch.
